The aim of this article is to highlight the experiences of 11–12-year-old students at a Norwegian primary school regarding their use of Minecraft in mathematics classes and explore the consequences for their motivation. The present research was carried out as a single case study. This implies an in-depth investigation of a contemporary phenomenon, an intervention, studied in its real-life context, the classroom. The object of the intervention in the participating class in 2015 and the spring of 2016 was to use Minecraft as an attempt to restore motivation for mathematics. The teacher found his students were motivated to work with Minecraft, but a question emerged about students' motivation to perform the given tasks. This study suggests that formative interventions in which the researcher is present in a school context implicates the possibilities for the study of externalisation processes. These processes provide an opportunity to obtain an understanding of what happens when a popular digital game from youth culture is applied to tasks in mathematics to achieve pedagogical goals.
This paper critical y examines two objections and raises a new objection against the besire theory of moral judgment. Firstly, Smith (1994) observes that a belief that p tends to expire whereas a desire that p tends to endure on the perception that not p. His observation does not refute the sophisticated version of the besire theory that to besire that p is to believe that p and to desire to act in accordance with the belief that p. Secondly, Zangwil (2008) claims that the strength of motivation may vary while the degree of belief remains constant. Besirists would reply that a besire admits of both degree and strength. Ve stati bude tematizována problematika časové perspektivy. Stať je rozdělena do dvou částí. První část má charakter přehledový, stručně přiblížíme hlavní teoretické koncepce, které byly k dané problematice vytvořeny. Z psychologického hlediska bylo k časovému faktoru v lidském životě přistupováno z různých pohledů: kognitivního, kognitivně motivačního a biodromálního. Analyzovány budou především koncepce Lewinovy, Raynorovy, Gjesmeho, Nuttinovy, Heckhausenovy a Zimbardovy. Z domácích autorů bude představena koncepce "perspektivní orientace" Pavelkové. První část bude uzavřena popisem strategií, které bývají využívány při operacionalizaci koncepcí časové perspektivy a diskusí nad možnostmi diagnostiky časové perspektivy. Ve druhé části předložíme některé vybrané výsledky výzkumů, které byly k časové problematice realizovány na české populaci. and Divided into two parts, this essay reflects upon the problem of time perspective. The opening part shortly describes the main theoretical concepts so far existing within the subject matter. From the psychological viewpoint, the factor of time in human life has been approached in various ways: the cognitive, cognitive-motivational, and life-long. The concepts of Lewin, Raynor, Gjesme, Nuttin, Heckhausen and Zimbardo are analysed. Of Czech authors, the "perspective orientation" by Pavelková is presented. The opening part is concluded with the strategies used for the operationalization of the concepts of time perspective, discussing the possibilities of time perspective diagnostics. Part two presents some selected results of time research investigations carried out with the Czech population.
Slogan "celoživotní učení od kolébky po hrob", který slyšíme hlásat kolem sebe, má zapůsobit (ne-li přímo zatlačit) na veřejnost ve velkém. Na jedné straně se úřady, zaměstnavatelé, odborové a resortní organizace snaží podněcovat odpovědné občanství v osobním i pracovním životě lidí. Na straně druhé chtějí organizace dávat zaměstnancům na srozuměnou, že jejich zaměstnatelnost je jen jejich věc a že se musejí učit. Je zvláštní, že prosazované heslo "celoživotní učení" stojí v tak příkrém kontrastu k nejednoznačné situaci ve vzdělávání, přípravě a rozvoji dospělých v organizacích. V tomto příspěvku tedy zkoumám, zdali pravda o sociálně konstruktivistickém přístupu k učení není jen pouhá "lež, kterou od tebe lidi čekají", jak říká nizozemský básník Gerrit Komrij. Mou výchozí tezí je, že nastal čas, abychom dominantní sociálně konstruktivistický přístup nahradili jiným. Místo něj potřebujeme přístup pevněji zakotvený v empirických znalostech a porozumění, přístup ponechávající klíčovou roli klasickým psychologickým koncepcím motivace a emocí. and The slogan "lifelong learning from the cradle to the grave" which we hear preached on all sides is impressed (if not pressed) upon the public at large. On the one hand, the authorities, employers, unions and sector organizations seek to encourage responsible citizenship in people's lives and work. On the other hand, organizations wish to make it absolutely clear to employees that their employability is their own responsibility and that they will need to learn. It is strange that the brandishing of the slogan lifelong learning stands in such stark contrast to the ambiguous situation of adult education and training and development in organizations. In this contribution I therefore enquire whether the truth of the social constructivist approach to learning is perhaps no more than "the lie that people expect of you" (a phrase borrowed from the Dutch poet Gerrit Komrij). My underlying thesis is that the time has come to replace the dominant social constructivist approach. In its place we need an approach that is more firmly grounded on empirical knowledge and understanding, an approach that assigns a key role to the classic psychological concepts of motivation and emotions.
The article looks into the basic word-formation relations - semantic motivation and formal foundation - and the tension between them. It presents three cases of word-formative analogy, i.e. imitating of a productive word-formative model by the copying of a morfematic structure of derivatives, regardless of the completeness or incompleteness of the derivative line. The article reflects experience gained during the work on Dictionary of affixes used in Czech.
Výzkumů motivace k učení se angličtině a jejího vztahu ke studijním výsledkům a aspiracím u českých žáků je málo. Tato studie si klade za cíl identifikovat vztah mezi úrovní výkonové motivace v angličtině a vybranými studijními výsledky a aspiracemi žáků. Výsledky dotazníkového šetření mezi žáky devátých ročníků základních škol (N = 324) ukazují, že potřeba úspěšného výkonu (PÚV) v angličtině je pozitivním prediktorem a potřeba vyhnutí se neúspěchu (PVN) v angličtině negativním prediktorem všech následujících indikátorů: známky z angličtiny na vysvědčení, získání vyznamenání, budoucí aspirace žáků studovat na g ymnáziu. Pro chlapce byl efekt PÚV na tyto indikátory v průměru nižší a naopak efekt PVN byl v průměru vyšší než pro dívky, nicméně v rámci regresní analýz y se ukázalo, že efekty nejsou statisticky signifikantní. Potvrzení těchto z jištění vyžaduje další výzkum, který by bral v úvahu rozdíly v užívání škál mezi žáky (např. skrze aplikaci metody ukotvujících vinět). and Studies on student motivation to learn English as a foreign language (EFL) and its relationship to achievement and study aspirations among Czech students are scarce. This study aims to identify the relationship between student level of EFL achievement motivation and their achievement and study aspirations. The results of a survey among ninth-grade basic school students (N = 324) show that the need for achievement (NfA) in EFL is a positive predictor and the need to avoid failure (NtAF) is a negative predictor of their final grade in English, of receiving a final report card with honors, and of aspiration to study at a grammar school. The effect of NfA on all indicators was, on average, lower for boys than for girls, and the effect of NtAF for boys was, on average, higher, yet the regression analysis showed that the effects were not significant. Further research should reflect the differences in scale usage among students (e.g., by using the anchoring vignette method).
Cieľom výskumu bolo popísanie motívov, ktoré adolescentov vedú k, respektíve brzdia v čítaní, ako aj zistenie možných rozdielov v motivácii a preferenciách žánrov z hľadiska veku. Výskumný súbor tvorilo 375 respondentov, z čoho čitateľov bolo 130 (34,66 %). Motivácia k čítaniu bola meraná prostredníctvom dotazníka Motivations for Reading Questionnaire (Wigfield & Guthrie, 1997). Motívy, ktoré vedú respondentov k čítaniu, respektíve ich od čítania odrádzajú, boli zisťované otvorenými otázkami. Výsledky ukázali, že medzi staršími a mladšími adolescentmi sa v rámci motivácie k čítaniu nenachádzajú rozdiely. K najčastejším motívom, ktoré vedú mladších respondentov k čítaniu kníh, patria: získavanie nových informácii z kníh, skutočnosť, že čítanie považujú za zábavnú a zaujímavú aktivitu a súčasne za možnosť na chvíľu uniknúť z reality. U starších dominovalo získavanie nových informácii, možnosť oddychu a únik z reality. V skupine nečítajúcej mládeže mladší respondenti uviedli, že nečítajú hlavne preto, lebo ich táto aktivita nebaví, knihy považujú za nudné a nechce sa im. Starších adolescentov od čítania odrádza presvedčenie, že čítanie je nudná aktivita a ďalším významným dôvodom je nedostatok času. Medzi mladšími čitateľmi sú populárne dobrodružné romány, fantasy a dievčenské romány. U starších čitateľov dominujú žánre podobné, a to žáner dobrodružný, fantasy a detektívny. and The aim of this study was to describe motives that lead adolescents to read, or which make them refuse to read. Furthermore, it aimed to find out potential differences in motivation and reading preferences due to age group. Totally 375 respondents participated in this study from which 130 (34,66%) were readers. Reading motivation was measured by the Motivations for Reading Questionnaire (Wigfield & Guthrie, 1997). Motives that lead adolescents to read or which make them refuse to read were detected with open questions. Results show that there are no differences between younger and older adolescents in reading motivation. The most common reading motives in younger readers were: reaching new information from books, opinion, that reading is a funny and interesting activity and reading represents an opportunity to escape from the reality for a while. In the group of older adolescents were most common motives reaching new information, the way how to relax and escape from the reality. Nonreading younger adolescents refuse to read because they are not interested in reading, they consider the book boring and they do not have the will to read. Older adolescents do not read because they consider reading as a boring activity and they do not have enough time for it. The most popular genres among younger readers are the adventurous genre, fantasy, and novels for girls. Older readers prefer the adventurous genre, fantasy, and detective novels.
The article presents a survey of the word-formation means used for the derivation of titles of documents. The focus is placed on the relationship between the semantic motivation and formal founding. The text tries to capture the extent of analogy of word-formation processes on the background of the relationship of langue and parole.
Dnešní podmínky na trhu vyžadují, aby vedoucí pracovníci neziskových organizací jednali stále více obchodním způsobem. Studie zjišťuje, zda vedoucí pracovníci neziskových organizací mají podobné dispozice k podnikatelskému jednání jako podnikatelé, ale jsou jinak motivováni. Při výzkumu byly pomocí standardních osobnostních testů a rozhovorů porovnány osobnostní rysy a vyjádřené motivy 72 vedoucích pracovníků neziskových organizací s 117 podnikateli. Obě skupiny vykazují podobné obecné a specificky podnikatelské osobnostní rysy, ale významně se liší, pokud jde o jejich motivaci. Zatímco motivace vedoucích pracovníků neziskových organizací pramení především ze smyslu jejich práce, podnikatelé jsou motivováni především nezávislostí a příjmem, které jim jejich práce poskytuje. Článek umožňuje lépe pochopit, kdo jsou vedoucí pracovníci neziskových organizací., Today's market conditions require nonprofit leaders to act in an increasingly business-like fashion. This study asks whether NPO leaders have a similar disposition to act entrepreneurially as for-profit entrepreneurs, but hold different underlying motives. For this purpose, the study contrasts a sample of 72 leaders of nonprofit organizations with 117 entrepreneurs on their personality traits and explicit motives using standard personality tests and interviews. Both groups exhibit similar general and entrepreneurship-specific personality traits but differ significantly regarding their motivation. While nonprofit leaders motivation stems primarily from the meaningfulness of their work; entrepreneurs are mainly motivated by the independence as well as by the income and profit provided by their work. Objectives. This study aims to better understand peak experience and their varieties (PEV), as a key concept in understanding positive human experience, in the context of a specific adventurous recreational pursuit. Sample and settings. Interviews with the 14 crew members of the historical sailing vessel Oesterscheldewere held at the end of a 38-day crossing of the Indian Ocean. A rigorous qualitative hermeneutical – narrative approach in analysing interviews was utilised. Results. The results were based on a qualitatively different cross-section of PEV that could be seen as a mixture of already thematised varieties of peak experience. The PEV were presented on three levels: the level of action, the level of feeling and the level of reflection; as such, they consisted of the interplay between specific challenges (situations) and responses (reactions). Alongside original methodology and analysis, the authors suggested the importance of studying the participant’s response to PEV. The response to PEV is seen as a crucial component in this study and to PEV itself. Finally, it was suggested that PEV could be projected into the future as a private and useful model of participation in life. Limitations. The study has a number of limitations commonly connected to the qualitative approach: a small number of participants, language bias (all interviews were held in English), the bias of question structure (“what did you feel?”), the participation of a researcher on the voyage, and the professionalism of the main crew that could bias the interviews. and Cílem této studie bylo lépe porozumět vrchol-ným zážitkům a jejich variacím (PEV), jakožto klíčovému konceptu pro pochopení pozitivních lidských prožitků, v kontextu specifického dob-rodružného rekreačního vyžití. Rozhovory se 14 členy posádky historické plachetnice Oester-schelde se uskutečnily na konci 38denní plav-by přes Indický oceán a k jejich analýze autoři využili kvalitativní hermeneuticko-narativní přístup. Výsledky vycházely z kvalitativně odlišného průřezu PEV, který lze považovat za směs již te-matizovaných variací vrcholného zážitku. PEV byly prezentovány ve třech rovinách: v rovině jednání, v rovině pocitů a v rovině reflexe; jako takové se skládaly ze souhry konkrétních výzev (situací) a reakcí (odpovědí). Kromě originální metodiky a analýzy autoři zdůrazňují význam studování odpovědí účastníků na PEV. Reakci na PEV považují za klíčovou složku této studie i PEV samotné.Studie má řadu omezení běžně spojených s kvalitativním přístupem: malý počet účastníků, jazykové zkreslení (všechny rozhovory probíha-ly v angličtině), zkreslení dané strukturou otá-zek rozhovoru a také faktem, že tazatel se také účastnil plavby.
