The article focuses on early theatre criticism in Prague and Vienna at the end of the 18th century. It analyzes the argumentational forms and critical strategies. The 1790s are represented by three periodicals: Der Wahrheitsspiegel (Prague 1796-1798), Österreichische Monatsschrift (Prague - Vienna 1793-1794) and Der Theatralische Eulenspiegel (Prague 1797). The study is based on a close reading of six specific theatre critiques. It deals with epoch-typical critical postulates, with taste (Geschmack), impartiality (Unparteilichkeit) and the aesthetic concept of theatre as a real illusion (wahre Täuschung). The introduction to this study describes the genesis of Vladislav Vančura’s novel The End of the Old Times (1934), which was based on a film script about Baron Munchausen. This is followed by an outline of its critical reception at the time and its historical background. It involves both the phenomenon of emigration from Russia after 1917 and the land reform carried out in Czechoslovakia from 1919 onwards. The core of the study is an analysis of Jan Mukařovský’s study of the novel, published in 1934 in the journal Listy pro umění a kritiku (Art and Criticism) and Mukařovský’s afterword to the fourth edition of The End of the Old Times, published in 1958. The author also considers both analysed texts in the context of the relevant literature.

Autor se zabývá problematikou teorie interpretace a čtení textů ve vztahu k prospektivě, tj. sleduje na pozadí proměn, které již probíhají nebo které se předpokládají v 21. století, jak může přetrvat literární věda a čtení chápané jako aktivní naslouchání textům. Jako základu přitom využívá myšlenek španělského prospektika a esejisty J. L. Abellána, který mezi hlavními znaky 21. století, na jehož počátku došlo k "historické mutaci" v myšlení, jmenuje triumf přítomnosti, revoluci prostoru, formování nového intelektuála, "měkkou" vědu na místo "silné" mysli, planetarizaci (globalizaci) aj. Autor článku v závěru vyslovuje tezi, že "měkká" věda dovoluje nekonečné čtení a v zásadě nekonečnou sémiózu. To může být pro literární vědu výzvou, že neustrne ve svém vývoji ani se nemusí vzdát svých pozic. and The author deals with the problems of the theory of interpretation and reading of texts in relation to the prospective, i.e. he observes how the literary criticism and reading can exist against the background of changes and modifications of the 21th century. The basis of his research is formed by the Spanish prospectic and essayist J. L. Abellán. The triumph of the present, revolution of space, formation of a new intellectual, "soft" science instead of the "hard" mind, globalisation etc. - these are the main symbols of Abellán's 21th century - the century of "historical mutation". In conclusion the autor expresses the thesis that the "soft" science permits endless reading and neverending semiosis. This can be a challenge for the literary criticism not to get stiff in its development and not to give up its positions.

Článek definuje charakteristické rysy Anněnkovovy literární kritiky. Pavel V. Anněnkov (1813–1887) patřil v padesátých letech 19. století k výrazným odpůrcům literárněkritických koncepcí radikálních demokratů. Anněnkov bývá považován za významného obhájce estetické stránky literárního díla, která podle něj nesmí být zastíněna diskusemi o politických či společenských otázkách. Avšak jeho hodnocení literárních děl nelze redukovat pouze na estetické hledisko. Autor dokládá, že Anněnkov ve svých literárních kritikách kladl důraz také na harmonii a mravní hledisko, a upravuje tak převládající zjednodušující vnímání Anněnkovova jako literárního kritika. Článek uvádí Anněnkovovy estetické a umělecké postoje do souvislostí dobového ruského liberálního myšlení a ukazuje, že vlivy evropského liberalismu je v ruském prostředí nutno hledat i mimo politickou sféru. and This study describes the characteristic features of Annenkov's literary criticism. Pavel V. Annenkov (1813–1887) was one of the key opponents of the concepts of literary criticism proposed by the radical democrats. He used to be regarded as a strong advocate of the aesthetic qualities of literature, which, in his opinion, could not be superseded by discussions about political or social issues. However, his assessment of literary works can not only be reduced to an aesthetic point of view. The author reports that in his literary criticisms Annenkov also puts emphasis on harmony and on moral viewpoint and thus he adjusts prevailing simplified perception of Annenkov as a literary critic. The study draws parallels between Annenkov's aesthetic and artistic views and the then-current Russian liberal thinking and shows that the influence of European liberalism on the Russian society can also be found outside the sphere of politics.

Drawing on literary paratexts such as prologues, reviews and letters, this study seeks answers to the question of Meissner’s role in the German-language canon, or rather why his literary legacy has endured for so long. First, Meissner’s personal contacts in the world of literature from a social-historical perspective is considered. This reveals that the repeated criticism of Meissner’s texts, which despite their popularity were to a large extent at odds with the taste of the time, cast him in a bad light. Čiastkovým cieľom archívneho výskumu v Slovenskej národnej knižnici v Martine (nespracovaný fond) – so zameraním na kontextualizáciu tvorby Maše Haľamovej (1908–1995) – bola rekonštrukcia názorov literárnych kritikov publikovaných v dobovej tlači alebo zachovaných v strojopisnej či v rukopisnej podobe od prvej polovice 20. storočia, keď vyšla jej debutová zbierka Dar (1928). Zo sumarizovaných recenzií a kritík (v rozpätí rokov 1928–2017) vyplýva, že názory mienkotvorných odborníkov a literárnych vedcov upozorňovali na špecifiká autorkinej poetiky, na medzitextové aj medziliterárne vzťahy k českej literatúre, potvrdzovali autorkino solitérstvo (nezaraditeľnosť), ale aj príznačný mravný a duchovný potenciál s puncom ušľachtilosti. Duchovnosť, konfesijne ukotvená v protestantskej tradícii, sa z percepcie odborníkov postupne vytrácala, čo vytvorilo priestor na alternatívne formy jej vyjadrenia, ba až spochybnenie kresťanskej spirituality. and The partial goal of our archive research in the Slovak National Library in Martin (unprocessed collection), aimed at the contextualisation of works written by Maša Haľamová (1908–1995), was to reconstruct the views of literary critics published in the press of that times or preserved in typescripts or manuscripts from the first half of the 20th century when her first collection of verse Dar (The Gift, 1928) came out. The summarised criticism (from 1928 to 2017) shows that the views of opinion-making specialists and literary scholars pointed out the specifics of her poetics, or intertextual and inter-literary relations towards the Czech literature, and confirmed her solitariness (she is difficult to categorise), but also her typical moral and ethical potential with the mark of nobility. As can be seen, it is the very spiritualness, confessionally anchored in the Protestant tradition, that gradually vanished from the perception of specialists which made room for alternative forms of expression, or even for the questioning the Christian spirituality.

Upozorňuje na to, že sa jeho výskum spája so štúdiom folklórnej literatúry, otázkami čitateľa a literatúrou tých autorov, ktorí boli z literatúry umiestnení do "bielych miest", teda z dejín literatúry sa stratili. Prevažujú metóda výkladu, reflexie a vysvetľovania autorskej tvorby. and The Penetrations in Literature and Culture are dedicated to Peter Liba. The author focuses on the issues addressed by the literary scholar. She points out that Peter Liba's research is connected with the study of folk literature, issues related to a reader and literature of those authors who have been placed outside of literature "white spots", i.e. set aside the literary history. The method of interpretation, reflection and explanation of the author's works are prevailing.
