To investigate how bisulfite promotes photosynthesis, a pot experiment was conducted with rice (Oryza sativa L.) plants to determine Rubisco activity and content, and Rubisco activase (RCA) gene expression after spraying NaHSO3 on rice leaves. The NaHSO3 treatment promoted significantly net photosynthetic rate (PN), carboxylation efficiency, maximum carboxylation rate, ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate regeneration rate, initial Rubisco activity, and RCA protein and mRNA concentrations. Therefore, the NaHSO3 enhancement of PN could be directly attributed to induction of RCA gene expression both at the transcription and translation levels. Thus, the increased RCA regulated the initial Rubisco activity in vivo., Y. Chen, J.-H. Jin, Q.-S. Jiang, C.-L. Yu, J. Chen, L.-G Xu, D.-A. Jiang., and Obsahuje bibliografii
Of the four tested sweet potato cultivars having different features in growth and yield, cv. Koganesengan (KOG) was sustainable in photosynthetic activity through young to aged leaves under drought. One of the causes for this phenomenon may be stomatal conductance (g s) of this cultivar that was relatively high in both aged and drought-imposed leaves. In these leaves the non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) was low and the quantum yield of photosystem 2 (Φe) was high, compared to those of the other cultivars. This helps to prevent excessive accumulation of chemical energy in leaves and a decrease in photoinhibition damage to the photosynthetic function, by which KOG sustains a relatively high photosynthetic activity under the drought and alleviates functional deterioration caused by leaf age. and Haimeirong, F. The photosynthetic parameters in leaves of three-year-old seedlings of Fraxinus rhynchophylla L. were studied under different soil water conditions and CO2 concentrations ([CO2]) with a
LI-COR 6400 portable photosynthesis system. The objective was to investigate the response of photosynthesis and stomatal conductance (gs) to various [CO2] and soil water conditions, and to understand the adaptability of F. rhynchophylla to such conditions. The results showed that the soil water content (RWC) required to maintain high photosynthetic productivity in F. rhynchophylla was 49.5-84.3%; in this range, net photosynthetic rate (PN) rose with [CO2] increasing from 500 to 1,400 μmol mol-1. Outside this RWC range, PN decreased significantly. The apparent maximum photosynthetic rate (Pmax,c) and carboxylation velocity (Vc) increased with increasing RWC and remained relatively high, when RWC was between 49.5 and 96.2%. CO2 compensation points and photorespiration rate exhibited a trend opposite to that of Pmax,c and Vc, indicating that moderate water stress was beneficial for increasing plant assimilation, decreasing photorespiration, and increasing production of photosynthates. gs declined significantly with increasing [CO2] under different water supplies, but the RWC range maintaining high gs increased. gs reached its maximum, when RWC was approximately 73% and then decreased with declining RWC. The maximal gs was found with increasing RWC. Thus, based on photosynthetic characteristics in artificial, vegetation construction in semiarid loess hill and gully area, F. rhynchophylla could be planted in habitats of low soil water content. and S. Twelve-day-old barley seedlings were supplied with 23 μM methyl jasmonate (MeJA) or 10 μM paraquat (Pq) via the transpiration stream and kept in the dark for 24 h. Then they were exposed to 100 μmol m-2 s-1 PAR and samples were taken 1, 2, 3, and 6 h after irradiation. Treatment of seedlings with MeJA alone resulted in decreased content of chlorophyll (Chl), and net photosynthetic (PN) and transpiration rates. Pq treatment led to a decrease in Chl content and to a very strong inhibition of PN, the effects were manifested by 1 h of irradiation. Pq treatment did not affect the activity of ribulose-1,5 bisphosphate carboxylase (RuBPC, EC 4.1.1.39) but increased the activity of the photorespiratory enzymes phosphoglycolate phosphatase (PGP, EC 3.1.3.18), glycolate oxidase (GO, EC 1.1.3.1), and catalase (EC 1.11.1.6). Pre-treatment of seedlings with MeJA before exposure to Pq fully blocked the inhibitory effect of Pq on photosynthesis and protected against subsequent Pq-induced oxidative damage. and V. A. Young leaves of tropical trees frequently appear red in color, with the redness disappearing as the leaves mature. During leaf expansion, plants may employ photoprotective mechanisms to cope with high light intensities; however, the variations in anthocyanin contents, nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ), and photorespiration during leaf expansion are poorly understood. Here, we investigated pigment contents, gas exchange, and chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence in Woodfordia fruticosa leaves during their expansion. Young red leaves had significantly lower Chl content than that of expanding or mature leaves, but they accumulated significantly higher anthocyanins and dissipated more excited light energy through NPQ. As the leaves matured, net photosynthetic rate, total electron flow through PSII, and electron flow for
ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate oxygenation gradually increased. Our results provided evidence that photorespiration is of fundamental importance in regulating the photosynthetic electron flow and CO2 assimilation during leaf expansion., S.-B. Zhang, J.-L. Zhang., and Obsahuje seznam literatury
