- Description:
- Nostalgia is a characteristic of our time, and it extends more and more also to technology. Rapid technological change is as well a cause of modernisation and related social developments as a cause of reluctance to new technologies and nostalgic longing for the past. Good examples for this phenomenon are media technologies. As media are part of the world of our everyday life they are also object of personal memories. Changing and developing in the flux of time, they are no more what they used to be in a former stage of our life. Therefore they form part of an expanding culture of memory, with aspects of musealization and nostalgia. This nostalgia of the media does not only extend to the material remains (media archives, personal collections etc.) but also to their specific way of appearance and representation, the way they let us see the world generated by them. Media do increasingly devote themselves to this nostalgia of the media, which means that they rely to different historic versions of themselves or of other media. Therefore nostalgia of the media in the media is a way of self-reference of the media, because media refer to themselves as subject to historic development, remembrance, oblivion, destruction etc. But nevertheless a nostalgic attitude towards media technologies, as in the case of other technologies as well, does not exclude openness for new technological developments, but may also very well coexist with the latter. and Andreas Böhn.

- Subject:
- modernization and Girirāj Kiśor
- Language:

- Description:
- The social-psychological Hindi play Narmedh (1970), written by Girirāj Kiśor, has as its main character a woman wnose husband and sons break with tradition in regard to marriage. Because of her own experiences. she wisches to maintain her family but at the same time she feels guilty about those efforts, and tries to commit suicide. Besides its content, the play is interesting because it is a tragedy, a genre that is more common in European than in Indian literature. The article analyses the techniques of the play and their contribution to the effect of tragedy, and uses especially the method of dialogue anylysis. In the interprearion argued here, the play suggests that after 1947 the old norms ruling personal relationships have been abandoned in favor of an attitude of self-interest or in some cases idealism, without new ones immediately replacing them. The effect is that these relationships may be ruled by indifference, which harms and to some extent immobilizes those who are sensitive.

8. Transkulturace: možnosti využití a rozšíření konceptu
- Creator:
- Křížová, Markéta
- Format:
- Type:
- model:internalpart and TEXT
- Subject:
- transculturation, acculturation, cultural interaction, colonization, and modernization
- Language:
- Czech
- Description:
- The article aims to introduce and explore the concept of „transculturation". Unlike the affiliated concept of „acculturation", capitalized widely in anthropology, sociology and other branches of social Sciences, the concept of transculturation had until recently commanded little attention outside the limited area of Latin American studies. The concept, originally formulated in the 1940s by Cuban sociologist Fernando Ortiz, accentuates the mutual character of cultural interaction, the active participation of „subordinate" groups in the process, as well as the unique character of the resulting cultural formation. That is, the processes of enforced cultural exchange (for example, through colonial expansion) are preceived as not only destructive, but also Creative. While the concept of transculturation had commonly been applied within the frame of American or African history and anthropology, the present article proposes the advantages and possibilities of its use in the study of (Central) European millieu - be it in the study of German-Jewish-Czech interaction in the nineteenth century, or in the study of Protestant-Catholic cultural exchange after the year 1620.

9. Unijní právo veřejných podpor ve finanční krizi: od existenční krize k modernizaci?
- Creator:

- Type:
- article, model:article, and TEXT
- Subject:
- veřejné podpory, právo EU, finanční krize, modernizace, state aids, EU law,, financial crisis, and modernization
- Language:
- Czech
- Description:
Zkušenosti z poslední finanční krize by každopádně měly vést k hlubší debatě o přístupu k řadě základních konceptů práva veřejných podpor EU, pro což by mohl dát potřebný prostor proces další modernizace unijního práva veřejných podpor spuštěný Evropskou komisí v květnu 2012. and EU law contains the strictest set of rules limiting granting aids to undertakings by States that do exist on international level. Consequently, it is not surprising that the recent financial crisis which broke out in 2007 has confronted EU law with one of the most serious challenges in its history. In the atmosphere of the escalating financial crisis and urgent calls for State interventions in most of the EU Member States, it turned out untenable for the European Commission to treat state aids to financial institutions, including the systemic ones, under the normal – and strict – rules on state aids to undertakings in difficulties.Under the pressure from the EU Council and the Member States, the European Commission proceeded to issuing five legal acts which have enabled the European Commission to permit Member States to grant aids to financial institutions under less strict conditions stemming from Article 107 (3) b TFEU and these aids have been actually permitted in an unprecedented extent. However, the ensuing moderation of EU state aids law has not been unlimited, apart from that the European Commission’s approach seems to have had few reasonable alternatives. Anyway, experience from the recent financial crisis should lead to a deeper debate on many of the basic notions and presumptions hitherto inherent to EU state aid law. The process of another modernization of EU state aid law – launched by the European Commission in May 2012 – might create needed space in this regard.
