Stejnojmenný seminář se z iniciativy Grantové agentury ČR uskutečnil 20. května 2015 v budově Akademie věd na Národní třídě v Praze. Jako hlavní řečníci vystoupili prof. Štěpán Jurajda a doc. Daniel Münich z CERGE-EI (společného pracoviště Univerzity Karlovy a Národohospodářského ústavu AV ČR) a prof. Jaroslav Pánek z Historického ústavu AV ČR. Grantová agentura ČR jako nejvýznamnější poskytovatel účelových finančních prostředků v oblasti základního výzkumu tímto seminářem poukázala na význam společenských a humanitních oborů a na dopad jejich výsledků. Téma bylo zvoleno i s ohledem na to, že jde o faktor, který hraje významnou roli při přípravě a hodnocení grantových projektů. and Jaroslav Pánek ; autor úvodu Pavel Baran.

14. Miroslav Hroch a evropské studium formování moderního národa

The article attempts to define five phases in Hroch's studies on national movements since the 1960s till today as well as the dominant empirical, interpretational and methodical features of his contributions - as they are the internationally reflected. However, in some cases (the "phases A - B - C" of the national movement), this reflection is connected with decontextualization or misunderstandings of Hroch's concepts interpretations (e.g. the above mentioned phases A - B - C were not a result, but an introductory methodical tool of Hroch's comparative study, and they are often interpreted only "by touch"), but that changes nothing on their inspiring impact. This text provides a detailed examination of realism as a philosophy of natural science and its implications for the practice of social science. It also summarises some of the central themes of realism and its relations with other philosophical traditions. Realism is seen as essentially an ontological doctrine which means that it shares with neo-pragmatism a critique of the predominantly epistemological stress - most evident in rationalism - of much recent philosophy. It is argued that on the relation between science and philosophy, realism adopts intermediate position between the anti-philosophical philosophy of the pragmatists and the rationalist conception as the judge of science. Firstly, this article outlines the main points made by Peter Winch in his breakthrough book The Idea of a Social Science. Its Fundamentals thesis, inspired by Wittgenstein and his accounts on the relation between language and reality, is the assumption that social sciences engage in philosophical endeavor, because the problems they deal with are not empirical, but conceptual. Following Wittgensteinian line of thought he comes up with the idea that all social action can be explained as rule following and therefore it should be approached by conceptual means other than those used by natural sciences. Secondly, this article explores the impact that The Idea of a Social Science had on the discussion about the nature of social sciences. It outlines it‘s main critiques which deal with (1) Winch’s conception of philosophy (2) the notion of rule following and (3) descriptive nature of Winch‘s approach. Cílem článku je podat kritický rozbor predikcí týkajících se budoucnosti sociálních věd, jak je formuluje Ladislav Kvasz pod záštitou svého projektu "formální epistemologie“. Modelem dynamiky vztahů mezi obory na vědeckém poli nabízí Kvasz v otázce střídání paradigmat alternativu ke Kuhnově teorii vědeckých revolucí. Text zkoumá, na jakých základech je mechanismus změn u Kvasze vystavěn a co z toho plyne pro relevanci předpovědí z tohoto modelu vyvozených – především těch o sociálních vědách. K tomu slouží souběžné představení historické metody Michela Foucaulta, který zdůrazňuje potřebu vyvarovat se zavádění falešných kontinuit ve zkoumání trajektorií vědeckých oborů, u kterých dochází ke zlomům v jejich epistemické struktuře. Zvláštní zřetel je kladen na souvislost predikcí s možnostmi odlišit epistemologicky a sociologicky uchopitelné prvky spojené s chodem vědy. Jako klíčový moment se tedy ukáže možnost práce se sociálně vědními obory pomocí jemných nástrojů, které Kvasz vyvinul na vědách exaktních., The aim of the article is to provide a critical analysis of predictions that concern the future of social sciences suggested by Ladislav Kvasz as a part of his project “formal epistemology”. In relation to the issue of paradigm change Kvasz’s model of dynamics in the scientific field offers an alternative to Kuhn’s theory of scientific revolutions. The article inquires the nature of the mechanism of changes in the field and what can therefore be predicted from such model – especially concerning social sciences. This is achieved with the help of Michel Foucault’s historical method, which emphasizes the need to avoid false continuities in explaining the development of a scientific discipline, which is going through deep discontinuities on its epistemic level. Special attention is given to the connection between predictions and the possibility of distinguishing epistemologically and sociologically graspable features of science. The adequacy of working with social sciences using tools Kvasz had developed focusing on formal disciplines is therefore identified as a decisive point., and Markéta Patáková.
