Salicylic acid (SA) and polyamines (PA) are widely used to overcome various abiotic stresses including salt (NaCl) stress in plants. In the present investigation, co-application efficacies of SA and PA on the salt stress (200 mM NaCl) were evaluated in Lycopersicon esculentum. After transplantation, at 10-d stage, seedlings were exposed to NaCl through soil and then allowed to grow till 30-d stage. At 31-d stage of growth, plants were sprayed with double distilled water (control) or spermidine (1.0 mM) and/or SA (10-5 M). The salt stress significantly reduced the growth, gas-exchange parameters, but increased antioxidant enzymes and proline content in the leaves. Moreover, the loss caused by salt stress was successfully restored by the following treatment of spermidine and SA., Q. Fariduddin, T. A. Khan, M. Yusuf, S. T. Aafaqee, R. R. A. E. Acclimation to excess light is required for optimizing plant performance under natural environment. The present work showed that the treatment of Arabidopsis leaves with exogenous H2O2 can increase the acclimation of PSII to excess light. Treatments with H2O2 also enhanced the capacity of the mitochondrial alternative respiratory pathway and salicylic acid (SA) content. Our work also showed that the lack in alternative oxidase (AOX1a) in AtAOX1a antisense line and the SA deficiency in NahG (salicylate hydroxylase gene) transgenic mutant attenuated the H2O2-induced acclimation of PSII to excess light. It indicates that the
H2O2-induced acclimation of PSII to excess light could be mediated by the alternative respiratory pathway and SA., Q. Z. Hou, Y. P. Wang, J. Y. Liang, L. Y. Jia, H. Q. Feng, J. Wen, N. Ehmet, J. Y. Bai., and Obsahuje bibliografii
In this work, the injuries caused by clethodim herbicide application as well as the use of exogenous salicylic acid (SA) as a protective agent against clethodim in Zea mays leaves were examined. Although the target for clethodim is the inhibition of acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase (ACCase) which is the key enzyme for fatty acid biosynthesis, it can indirectly affect the photosynthetic machinery, gaseous exchange and some biochemical parameters. Clethodim application caused chlorosis and yellowing of leaf-tip parts. Higher doses caused browning or reddening of leaves and sometimes dead parts of the leaf margins were observed. The rate of photosynthesis was significantly lowered and the pigments content was highly reduced as a response to clethodim spraying. Moreover, other gas-exchange properties were altered. Furthermore, accumulation of high amounts of carbohydrates, proteins and proline were detected. SA spraying three days prior clethodim application caused partially or totally disappearance of clethodim injuries and kept the leaves similar to those of control. Improved photosynthesis and enhanced pigments content were observed in leaves treated with SA. Other analyzed parameters showed values similar to those of the corresponding control. From the experimental work, an evidenced role of SA working against clethodim effects was suggested and discussed in this paper., D. E. M. Radwan, D. M. Soltan., and Obsahuje bibliografii
