Ductile shear zone recorded valuable data about the progressive deformation and geodynamic setting of the earth crust. Analysis of the strain ratio on the deformed quartz grains in the samples of the Zagros orogenic shear zone indicated generally most of the strain ellipsoids shape are prolate and developed under constructional strain regime. Principal axes of the strain ellipticity ratio varied in the range between 2.04 to 3.12, shear strain magnitude analysis indicated εs are between “0.6 to 1.3”. Strain ellipsoid shape also revealed the propagation of the shear zone could not be coeval with the continental collision because in the collision region expected the ellipsoid shape to be oblate. Flattening strain regime in the Zagros Orogeny contemporaneous with the collisional event (D1 phase) and widespread in the Sanandaj-Sirjan Metamorphic Zone. Constructional conditions and prolate strain ellipsoid could be related to the post-collisional deformation phase (D2 phase). In this event stretching and shearing localized in the ductile shear zone and transtension structures superimposed on the former transpression structures. The deformation followed by third phase and brittle event (D3 phase) and caused to the propagation of veins. These veins somewhere cut the foliation and in the other place are parallel to foliation plane.
a1_We investigated the influence of salinity (0, 25, 50, or 75 mM NaCl) on gas exchange and physiological characteristics of nine citrus rootstocks (Cleopatra mandarin, Carrizo citrange, Macrophylla, Iranian mandarin Bakraii, Rangpur lime, Rough lemon, Sour orange, Swingle citrumelo, and Trifoliate orange) in a greenhouse experiment. Total plant dry mass, total chlorophyll (Chl) content, and gas-exchange variables, such as net photosynthetic rate (PN), stomatal conductance (g s), intercellular CO2 concentration, were negatively affected by salinity. In addition, ion concentrations of Cl- and Na+ increased by salinity treatments. Salinity also increased Mg2+ content in roots and reduced Ca2+ and Mg2+ concentrations in leaves. The K+ concentration in leaves was enhanced at low salinity (25 mM NaCl), whereas it decreased with increasing salinity stress. Salinity caused a decline in K+ contents in roots., a2_The rootstocks showed major differences in the extent of Cl- and Na+ accumulation in leaves and in their ability to maintain the internal concentrations of essential nutrients in response to different salinity. Therefore, in addition to inhibitory effects of high concentrations of Cl- and Na+, an imbalance of essential nutrients may also contribute to the reduction in gas exchange under saline conditions. Higher tolerance of rootstocks to salinity could be associated with the reduction of Cl- and Na+ uptake and transport to leaves, ability to keep higher Chl, gs, PN, and better maintenance of nutrient uptake even under high salinity. We found that Sour orange and Cleopatra mandarin were the rootstocks most tolerant to salinity of all nine studied. There are many strategies to control leishmaniasis, but majority of them are inadequate. Killed Leishmania vaccine (KLV) has been applied for its immunogenicity in human and mouse model. Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) as adjuvant is an immunemodulator inducing humoral and cellular immune responses during zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis (ZCL). Both KLV and BCG have been applied for their immune responses in hosts for controlling leishmaniasis. In this study, KLV and BCG were applied to inhibit replication and visceralization of Leishmania major in BALB/c mice. Mice were injected with KLV and BCG, followed by infection with promastigotes of L. major. Six weeks after infection, a small nodule appeared, which was followed by development of a large lesion and visceralization. Effects of KLV and BCG, physiopathological changes, lesion size, delay of lesion formation, proliferation of amastigotes inside macrophages and detection of amastigotes in target organs were studied. Results showed that the KLV had anti-leishmanial activity by reducing lesion size on late infection. In KLV and BCG group, the average number of amastigotes in macrophages was lower than in other groups. Significant reductions in number of amastigotes in both spleen and lymph node were observed, indicating lower visceralization of Leishmania parasites in these target organs. No significant changes were presented in body weights, survival rates and degrees of splenomegaly in test group. It can be concluded that application of KLV and BCG had acceptable efficacy in reduction of skin lesions size and proliferation of parasites, even though a few side-effects were observed. It is indicated that KLV/BSG may have ability to modulate host immune responses against Leishmania parasites and to reduce pathophysiology of the disease during infection.
We studied water relations and gas exchange in six almond genotypes grafted on GF677 in response to withholding irrigation for 14 days and a subsequent 10-day rehydration period. The responses to drought stress significantly differed in the almond genotypes; the tolerant plants were distinguished and monitored. Leaf relative water content (RWC) decreased by more than 23%, leaf water potential dropped to less than -4.3 MPa, and electrolyte leakage increased to 43% in dehydration-sensitive genotypes. Photosynthesis (PN) and stomatal conductance (gs) of drought-sensitive genotypes were significantly reduced by 70% and 97% in response to water deficiency. Water stress significantly enhanced wateruse efficiency up to 10 folds in drought-tolerant almonds. The difference between leaf temperature and its surrounding air temperature (ΔT) increased significantly to more than 187% under water stress in drought-tolerant genotypes. In addition, the reduction in the g s and further ability to preserve RWC were involved probably in drought-tolerance mechanism in almond. Negative significant correlations were found between ΔT, PN, and gs. Based on the correlations, we suggested that ΔT could be used as a simple measurement for monitoring water stress development in the irrigation management of almond orchards. Exhibition of lanthanide tetrad effect in PAAS-normalized REE patterns, and non-CHARAC (non-CHArge-RAdius Control) behavior of Y/Ho and Zr/Hf in limestone of the Ruteh Formation, Kanigorgeh district (NW Iran), were studied in order to understand the reasons of occurrence of lanthanides tetrad effects. The computed values show that the third and fourth tetrads can be used as a good and powerful geochemical tool for investigation of physicochemical conditions of the depositional environment of the limestones. Here, a new mathematical-based method using polar coordination system for tetrad effect values (Tp) was used to evaluate under studying limestone. The correlation between Tp and some geochemical parameters revealed that the limestone was likely deposited under two different conditions. The obtained results indicated that paleo-redox conditions, adsorption and scavenging by kaolinite and metallic oxides, degree of detrital input, diagenesis intensity, and complexation by polycarbonate ligands are likely the main mechanisms for occurrence of tetrad effect phenomenon in REE distribution patterns in the limestone. Notwithstanding lack of detailed and freely accessible data, this paper examines the heavily under researched issue of ethno-nationalism and separatism amid Iran‘s largest ethnic minority, Azerbaijanis, in an attempt to identify whether they may pose a threat to the territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic. Despite the fact that Azerbaijanis, a predominantly shiite community speaking a Turkic language, have historically been deeply integrated into Iranian society generating numerous élite members, recent decades have seen a gradual rise of nationalistic sentiments among them; sentiments that in some occasions have bordered on claims for secession. The authors claim that this process was instigated by a range of factors including the obtaining of independence by the post-Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan, introduction of Turkish and Azeri satellite TV broadcast to Iran’s Azerbaijani provinces and increasing levels of economic migration from Iranian Azerbaijan to Turkey. The authors conclude by stating that as of yet, the community of Iranian Azerbaijanis is deeply divided between religiously-minded assimilationists advocating for the established status quo and ever radicalized ethno-nationalists whose aim is to at least achieve more ethno-cultural rights for themselves.
The Kanisheeteh bauxite deposit (NW Iran) is located on the Irano-Himalaya karst bauxite belt and was developed as stratiform horizon along the contact of the Permian and Triassic formations. Based on absolute weathering index (AWI), HREE were leached out, whereas LREE suffered both leaching and fixation during bauxitization. The non-CHARAC characteristic of Y/Ho ratios can be attributed to geochemically known phenomenon as the "tetrad effect". The simultaneous convex and concave curves of the tetrad effect were observed in the chondrite-normalized REE patterns of the bauxite ores. The correlation between the sizes of T4 and AWI% values revealed two separate populations. The first one is characterized by a wide variation in sizes of T4 and very narrow AWI% values, and is thought to be related to acidic zone of the profile. In contrast, the second one is marked by a narrow variation in sizes of T4 and wide variation in AWI% values, and is conceived to be affiliated to alkaline zone of the profile. In this research, the tetrad effect proved to be capable of clarifying the geochemical characteristics of the deposit and can be applied as a good geochemical index to investigate the prevailed paleo-conditions of depositional environments.
The article deals with changes in the social status of women, their civil rights and women's activism in iran. The text focuses primarily on the period after the establishment of the Islamic Republic and the implementation of Sharica law. The situation and the rights of women have undergone change in the past three decades in connection with politics and the interests of the Islamist regime. Because of several limitations in relation to the rights of women, Iranian women have sought to influnce public opinion and to change laws through various women's journals and also through their professions. Female politicians have tried to change the system from inside by influencing the laws concerning women's issues and they have stood as candidates in parliamentary elections, even wanting to stand as candidates in presidential elections. Two new species of Acanthobothrium van Beneden, 1850 from the spiral intestine of Pastinachus cf. sephen Forsskål from the Iranian coast of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman are described. To analyse the surface ultrastructure the worms were studied using light and scanning electron microscopy. Acanthobothrium jalalii sp. n. belongs to the category 1 species of the genus so far including 43 species. This tiny new species differs from the other category 1 species by its small total length (2.18 ± 0.49 mm), number of proglottids (4.7 ± 0.9) and testes (24 ± 3), terminal segments in an apolytic condition and the shape of the cirrus-sac. Acanthobothrium sphaera sp. n. is a small worm that belongs to the category 2 species of the genus so far including 36 species. A. sphaera sp. n. differs from the other category 2 species by its small total length (1.6 ± 0.2 mm), number of proglottids (9.6 ± 1.2) and testes (12 ± 1), the presence of a vaginal sphincter and the shape of the ovary. This is the first report of Acanthobothrium from the cowtail stingray, P. cf. sephen, from the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. Pastinachus sephen sensu lato has been reported as a common host of species of Acanthobothrium. Most recently, the host genus Pastinachus Rüppell has been split into five nominal species and several Acanthobothrium species infect the newly described congeners but not P. sephen. The real identity of the host studied within the present study is still in question, since sequence data of three specimens from the Gulf of Oman do not correspond to P. sephen sensu stricto.
