Použití draselno-vápenatého skla k jejich výrobě poskytuje další doklad inovačních procesů evropského sklářství. and Using visual observations and chemical analyses, it is possible to distinguish a separate type of Early Medieval beads designated as „G-beads“ on the basis of the material from which they are made. Finds of these beads are typical for the horizon of Early Medieval burial sites in Bohemia. The inventory of grave goods includes olive-shaped beads, Danube River basin jewellery and jewellery of Great Moravian origin or tradition. Along with the olive-shaped beads, the G-beads can be regarded as another indicator of the production of glass jewels in central Europe at the end of the 9th century through the first half of the 10th century. The use of wood-ash glass in the production of the beads is further evidence of the innovative processes employed in European glassmaking.
Článek hodnotí výsledky systematických prospekcí s pomocí detektorů kovů z pomezí východních Čech a severozápadní Moravy za posledních patnáct let, doplněné o geofyzikální prospekci hradiště u Mařína. Dosavadní výzkum přinesl importy byzantského i karolínského původu (nákončí, průvlečka, hrot kopí) 7.–9. stol., nejpočetnější jsou lité ozdoby pozdně avarského typu z 8. století. Prostorová distribuce raně středověkých artefaktů mimo tradiční sídelní oblast vykazuje vazby na zaniklé komunikace, dochované v podobě úvozů. and The article evaluates the results of systematic metal detector surveys from the borderland between east Bohemia and northwest Moravia over the past fifteen years, supplemented with a geophysical survey of early medieval hillfort near Mařín (Svitavy district). The conducted surveys have produced imports of Byzantine and Carolingian origin (strap ends, loops, spear tip) from the 7th to 9th century, with cast ornaments of the Late Avar type from the 8th century occurring in the greatest numbers. The spatial distribution of early medieval artefacts outside the traditional settlement territory shows ties to defunct roads preserved in the form of sunken lanes.
Pozornost je též věnována problematice tzv. technických misek s polevou z pražských nálezů 12. a 13. století. and The paper evaluates previous and newly conducted physico-chemical analyses of amorphous vitreous and slag-like lumps as well as vitreous coatings on ceramic vessels from Prague. The study employed electron microanalysis (EDX analyser), electron microscope (CamScan S4) and optical emission spectrography. The results of the determinations indicate that deliberate smelting of glassworking raw material in the suburbium of the Prague Castle dates back to Early Middle Ages already. Possible manufacture of glass objects and the use of glass materials with lead addition for metallurgical purposes are discussed. Attention is also given to the problem of the so-called glazed technological bowls from Prague finds of the 12th and 13th centuries.
V práci jsou prezentovány archeologické nálezy dokládající metalurgii neželezných kovů raně středověkého stáří získané při výzkumech na Malé Straně v Praze. Patří k nim zejména tavicí kelímky (tyglíky) a miskovité střepy běžné keramiky využité druhotně v metalurgii. Méně běžné jsou další druhy nálezů a situace svědčící o práci s neželeznými kovy (prubířské kameny, kadlub ad.). Část souboru byla podrobena EDS–SEM analýzám. Vyhodnocení jejich výsledků přispělo k poznání druhů získávaných a zpracovávaných neželezných kovů, resp. jejich slitin, i k částečnému objasnění postupů využívaných při jejich výrobě či testování kvality rudních surovin a hutnických meziproduktů. and The work presents archaeological finds documenting the metallurgy of non-ferrous metals of early medieval age acquired during excavations in Prague’s Lesser Quarter. These in particular include melting crucibles and bowl-shaped potsherds of common ceramics used secondarily in metallurgy. Other types of finds and situations documenting work with non-ferrous metals are less frequent (touchstones, a mould, etc.). Part of the assemblage was subjected to EDS–SEM analyses. An evaluation of their results contributed to an understanding of the types of non-ferrous metals (and their alloys) acquired and processed, to a partial clarification of the methods used in their production or the testing of the quality of their ores and their intermediate metallurgical products.
Výrazný nárůst pramenné základny archeologických dokladů středověké výroby a zpracování železa z historického jádra Prahy, především po roce 1989, vyvolal potřebu provést nové zhodnocení geneze této nezemědělské činnosti, která významným způsobem ovlivnila počátky a postupné utváření pražské sídlištní aglomerace v období od 9. do 1. poloviny 13. století. Rekapitulace starých a prezentace nových nálezů umožnila vytvořit zcela nečekaný rekonstrukční obraz, ze kterého je zřejmá dynamičnost železářských aktivit v čase a prostoru. Vedle otázek spojených s dislokací a genezí výrobních areálů na ploše města je v této práci řešena neméně důležitá a v řadě případů klíčová otázka spojená s problematikou surovinových zdrojů a jejich těžby na území dnešní Prahy. and A considerable increase in source material providing archaeological evidence of the Medieval production and working of iron in the historic core of Prague, particularly post–1989, has created a need to undertake a new evaluation of the genesis of such non–agricultural activities, which in a significant manner affected the origins and gradual formation of the Prague settlement agglomeration from the 9th to the first half of the 13th centuries. The recapitulation of older and presentation of newer finds enables the creation of an entirely unexpected reconstruction, a picture from which the dynamism of metallurgical activities both spatially and temporally is clear. Alongside questions associated with the dislocation and genesis of production areas within the city’s bounds, this work also resolves other no less important questions linked to the problem of raw material resources and their exploitation in the area of today’s Prague.
