Based especially on The Elementary Forms of Religious Life (1912) the text tries to delimitate contours of „Durkheim’s epistemology“ (i. e. relatively coherent group of assertions). It argues that the deep „objective“ of this connection is to ensure autonomy and specific field for the new-born scientific province, sociology, through the claim that this contribution can solve and actually does solve (from the French sociologist’s point of view) „traditional epistemological hardships“ into which philosophical empiricism and rationalism fall. Durkheim’s sociological deduction of categories (instead of transcendental deduction), as Ernst Cassirer calls it, is presented in contrast to the „holy positivists interpretations“ of his writing, exclusively intentional conceptualizations of action and notion formation, and correspondence theory of truth. The article introduces a special themed issue of Theory of Science on epistemologies of spaces and places. It provides a disciplinary context of the theme and reviews some of the key arguments that led to the so-called spatial turn in social sciences and the humanities. Science studies in the broad sense (including social studies of science and technology, history and philosophy of science) have also been affected by this shift of research interest to spatial aspects of science at both micro- and macro-levels. Scientific knowledge has been subject to analyses that stress its local contingencies, mobility and dependencies on spatial arrangements. The ensuing new epistemologies require novel concepts or reconsideration of the older terms, such as universality or objectivity., Tento článek uvozuje zvláštní tematické číslo Teorie vědy věnované epistemologiím prostorů a míst. Článek představuje oborový kontext tématu a poskytuje přehled některých klíčových argumentů, jež vedly k takzvanému prostorovému obratu v sociálních a humanitních vědách. Výzkumy vědy v širokém smyslu (zahrnujícím sociální výzkumy vědy a techniky, dějiny a filosofii vědy) byly také ovlivněny tímto přesunem badatelských zájmů k jejím prostorovým aspektům na mikro i makro úrovni. Vědecké vědění je podrobováno analýzám, které zdůrazňují jeho místní nahodilosti, mobilitu a závislost na prostorových uspořádáních. Monografie by se dala nejlépe zařadit do oblasti, pro kterou se v současnosti vžilo označení filozofie informace. Jejím cílem je vyslovit určité metateoretické předpoklady, na kterých stojí pokusy o definování pojmu informace a o které se opírají jednotlivá paradigmata informační vědy, vnést více světla do problémů, které se pojí zejména s pojmem informace a transdisciplinární povahou informační vědy, a navrhnout přístup informační vědy, který se opírá o zdůvodněné závěry metateoretických výzkumů. V rámci těchto výzkumů se zaměřujeme na dosažení tří dílčích cílů – definujeme pojem informace v rámci 1. epistemologie a 2. v rámci metafyziky a 3. vytváříme model domény, v níž dochází k tvorbě informací, pomocí funkční syntézy tří hlavních paradigmat informační vědy. ,This monograph is mostly linked to the field currently known as philosophy of information (PI). The monograph aims firstly at bringing in certain metatheoretical assumptions which underlie the definitions of information and the paradigms of information science. Secondly, the monograph intends to bring more light into the area of information and the transdisciplinary character of information science. The third goal of the monograph is to suggest an information science approach that is rooted in valid results of metatheoretical researches. Among these researches, three goals are targeted – defining the information in the context of 1) epistemology, 2) metaphysics and 3) creating a domain model that includes the process of information production, all this by means of functional synthesis of three key information science paradigms.
