22. The relationships between quantitative MR parameters in hippocampus in healthy subjects and patients with temporal lobe epilepsy

We introduce a new magnetic resonance (MR) method based on a pixel-by-pixel image processing to examine relationships between metabolic and structural processes in the pathologic hippocampus. The method was tested for lateralization of the epileptogenic zone in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). Twenty patients with drug-resistant TLE and fifteen healthy controls were examined at 3T. The measurement protocol contained T2-weighted MR images, spectroscopic imaging, diffusion tensor imaging and T2 relaxometry. Correlations between quantitative MR parameters were calculated on a pixelby- pixel basis using the CORIMA program which enables automated pixel identification in the normal tissue according to control data. All MR parameters changed in the anteroposterior direction in the hippocampus and correlation patterns and their slopes differed between patients and controls. Combinations of T2 relaxation times with metabolite values represent the best biomarkers of the epileptogenic zone. Correlations with mean diffusivity did not provide sufficiently accurate results due to diffusion image distortions. Quantitative MR analysis noninvasively provides a detailed description of hippocampal pathology and may represent complementary tool to the standard clinical protocol. Fabrication of plasmonic nanoantennas with resonance frequencies in visible range is often challenging due to the necessity of exposure of nonconductive substrates. This work is focused in comparison of conventional fabrication approach using conductive polymer layers and alternative variable pressure electron beam lithography (VP-EBL) method. We have also studied the stability of VP-EBL process for long exposures. and Výroba plazmonických nanoantén s rezonančními frekvencemi ve viditelné oblasti pomocí elektronové litografie mnohdy přináší nutnost expozice nevodivých substrátů. Tato práce je zaměřena na porovnání výsledků dosažitelných konvenčním přístupem za použití vodivých polymerů a alternativního postupu v podobě litografie za variabilního tlaku (VP-EBL). Dále je testována stabilita VP-EBL procesu pro dlouhodobé expozice.

Pozměňování či falzifikace psaných textů jsou bezesporu staré jako sám vynález písma. Důvody pro takové jednání byly různé, nicméně skutečné stáří, respektive autenticita, daného rukopisu mají velký dopad na jeho význam, ať již pro historii, nebo - v případě současných rukopisů - z hlediska právního. U některých historických rukopisů je otázka jejich datování řešena s použitím spektroskopických technik, jejichž hlavní výhodou je nedestruktivnost nebo minimální invazivnost, neohrožující samu existenci zkoumaného dokumentu. V článku jsou zmíněny nejčastější spektroskopické metody používané k těmto účelům, včetně příkladů konkrétních studovaných rukopisů., The alteration or falsification of written texts is undoubtedly old as invention of scripture itself. The reasons for such behaviour are different, but the actual age or authenticity of the manuscript had a great impact on its signification, whether for history or, in the case of contemporary manuscripts, from a legal point of view. For historical manuscripts, the question of their dating is solved using spectroscopic techniques whose main advantage is non-destructiveness or minimal invasiveness, not endangering the very existence of the document under study. The paper deals with an overview of current methods for standoff detection of explosives. In the first part, there are given basic information on explosives and their properties which are important for the detection, namely the chemical composition, the vapor pressure and spectral characteristics. The main part is devoted to laser methods suitable for standoff detection of explosives - Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), Raman spectroscopy, coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS), photofragmentation followed by laser-induced fluorescence (PF-LIF) and pulsed laser fragmentation mid-IR spectroscopy (MIR-PF). The last part is devoted to a brief comparison of these methods. and Článek se zabývá přehledem současných metod pro vzdálenou detekci výbušnin. V první části jsou poskytnuty základní informace o výbušninách a jejich vlastnostech důležitých pro detekci, tedy zejména o chemickém složení, tenzi par a spektrálních vlastnostech. Hlavní část článku je věnována laserovým metodám vhodným pro vzdálenou detekci výbušnin - spektroskopii laserem buzeného plazmatu (LIBS), Ramanově spektroskopii, koherentní anti-Stokesově-Ramanově spektroskopii (CARS), fotofragmentaci následované laserem indukovanou fluorescencí (PF-LIF) a mid-IR spektroskopii pulzní laserové fragmentace (MIR-PF). Poslední část článku je věnována stručnému srovnání těchto metod.
