A myxosporean producing actinospores of the tetractinomyxon type in Hydroides norvegicus Gunnerus (Serpulidae) in Denmark was identified as a member of the family Parvicapsulidae based on small-subunit ribosomal DNA (SSU rDNA) sequences. Myxosporean samples from various Danish and Norwegian marine fishes were examined with primers that detect the novel myxosporean. Sprattus sprattus (Linnaeus) and Clupea harengus Linnaeus (Teleostei, Clupeidae) were found to be infected. The sequences of this parvicapsulid from these hosts were consistently slightly different (0.8% divergence), but both these genotypes were found in H. norvegicus. Disporic trophozoites and minute spores of a novel myxosporean type were observed in the renal tubules of some of the hosts found infected through PCR. The spores appear most similar to those of species of Gadimyxa Køie, Karlsbakk et Nylund, 2007, but are much smaller. The actinospores of the tetractinomyxon type from H. norvegicus have been described previously. In GenBank, the SSU rDNA sequences of Parvicapsulidae gen. sp. show highest identity (82%) with Parvicapsula minibicornis Kent, Whitaker et Dawe, 1997 infecting salmonids (Oncorhynchus spp.) in fresh water in the western North America. A phylogenetic analysis places P. minibicornis and Parvicapsulidae gen. sp. in a sister clade to the other parvicapsulids (Parvicapsula spp. and Gadimyxa spp.).
The notifiable freshwater pathogen Gyrodactylus salaris Malmberg, 1957 tends to be a generalist in contrast to other monogeneans. Whilst it causes most damage to its primary host, the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar Linnaeus), transport and reservoir hosts likely play a key role in maintaining the parasite in the environment. Here, we tested the ability of G. salaris (strain River Lierelva, southern Norway) to infect and reproduce on a population of wild caught alpine bullhead (Cottus poecilopus Heckel). Exposure of alpine bullhead yearlings (0+) to G. salaris for 24 h at low (6.5 °C) or high temperature (11.5 °C) resulted in the establishment of 1 to 104 parasites per fish. Eight to nine days post-infection at high temperature, the infection of G. salaris was eliminated, indicative of innate host immunity. In contrast, at low temperature G. salaris infections persisted for 47-48 days. The relative lengthy infection of alpine bullhead with G. salaris compared to other non-salmonids tested may be due to low temperature and high initial infection load in combination with an epibiont infection. The present results suggest that this non-salmonid may function as a temperature-dependent transport or reservoir host for G. salaris.
Digital technologies are a common feature of present society and people's lives. They have made a significant entry into education as well. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) therefore become an important political issue as early as the last decades of the 20th century, when this topic was reflected in the priorities and goals of educational policies. In the present study, the authors focus on the history and transformations of educational policies regarding ICTs in two European countries with distinct geographies, economies, and politics. These countries nevertheless share several features concerning integrating ICTs into education. The authors use a qualitative comparative study of the two countries to approach the two countries as cases, thus enabling relatively detailed insight into the issue, including its contexts. The goals of the study are to describe the cultural, historical, and political context of ICTs implementation in education and explore the development and transformations of Czech and Norwegian educational policies regarding ICTs since their start in the two educational systems. The authors explore the approaches the two countries chose to integrate ICTs into their respective education systems. The study concludes by comparing the states of affairs of implementation of digital technologies in education in four specific areas.

The fish leech Johanssonia arctica (Johansson, 1898) was collected from king crabs Paralithodes camtschaticus (Tilesius, 1815) in Finnmark, N Norway, and allowed to feed on experimental fish hosts in the laboratory. This leech ingested blood from laboratory-reared cod (Gadus morhua) and halibut (Hippoglossus hippoglossus). Some experimental halibut acquired trypanosome infection, with parasitaemia between ca. 500 and 60,000 trypanosomes ml-1. The trypanosomes were of variable size and measured 39-90 µm (mean 57 µm) ca. 81 days post-infection. Characteristic features are cell striation, refractile cytoplasmic granules, anterior nucleus and a relatively long (ca. 6 µm, max 9 µm) distance from the posterior end to the kinetoplast. Following growth, the trypanosomes became increasingly slender, with fewer striae and a nucleus position less pronounced anterior. The trypanosome is considered distinct from a type transmitted by the leech Calliobdella nodulifera (Malm, 1863) in the NE Atlantic, but is regarded conspecific with a trypanosome transmitted by J. arctica in the NW Atlantic. This trypanosome has in the past been identified as Trypanosoma murmanensis Nikitin, 1927, a poorly described species. T. murmanensis cannot be recognized with certainty among the trypanosomes transmitted by C. nodulifera and J. arctica respectively. We propose that the J. arctica-transmitted species is considered T. murmanensis Nikitin, 1927 sensu stricto.

This is a report on a post-lactating female soprano pipistrelle, Pipistrellus pygmaeus, which in autumn exploited habitats from sea level to the transition zone between alpine and sub-alpine areas. It travelled more than 12.3 kilometres from its roost and returned to its roost at sea level on all four nights when it was tracked. In addition to the telemetry bat, several soprano pipistrelles utilized high altitudes during the days of tracking as heard on ultrasound detector.
In this paper, I analyse the post-war development of social rental housing in Norway. During the 20th century, Norwegian municipalities created some of the more means-tested and market-oriented social housing sectors in Europe. Given developmentsin other countries in recent decades, the Norwegian case is therefore highly relevant to the general debate on the residualisation of social housing in Europe. Using the case of Oslo as the main point of departure, I discuss key challenges of residual and market-oriented social rental housing. Drawing on city council debates, local government reports, and previous studies, I argue that the logic of extreme meanstesting creates policy dilemmas connected to contradictory policy goals.
Babesiosis is an emerging zoonotic disease and various wildlife species are reservoir hosts for zoonotic species of Babesia Starcovici, 1893. The objective of the present study was to investigate the presence and prevalence of Babesia spp. in moose Alces alces (Linnaeus) in two regions of Norway. A total of 99 spleen samples were collected from animals of various ages from an area with the occurrence of the tick Ixodes ricinus (Linnaeus, 1758), and from an area where the ticks are known to be absent. Infection was detected by the amplification of different regions of the 18S rRNA gene by using two different PCR primer sets specific of Babesia. Babesia spp. were found in the spleen samples of four moose. All Babesia-infected animals were from an area where ticks occur, with an infection rate of 6% (4 of 70). Babesia-positive samples were obtained from a five-month old moose calf and three adults. Two Babesia species, Babesia capreoli (Enigk et Friedhoff, 1962) and a B. odocoilei-like, were identified. Co-infection with Anaplasma phagocytophilum was obtained in two animals. Eight species of Typhlodromus Scheuten were collected during an extensive survey of phytoseiid mites in Norway. One of the species, Typhlodromus norvegicus, is described as a new taxon and Typhlodromus ulex Evans is considered to be a junior synonym of Typhlodromus phialatus Athias-Henriot. Keys are given for the identification of the genera of the Typhlodrominae and species of the genus Typhlodromus represented in the fauna of Norway. Distribution maps are provided for seven species and the frequency of Typhlodromus species on a range of host plants is given in tabular form. Picea abies showed the highest frequency of Typhlodromus spp. and all eight species were found on Juniperus communis.
