The paper follows on from a joint research project on the ceramics from the late LBK settlement of Cuiry-lès-Chaudardes, Picardy region, north-eastern France. In the course of this project, studies on raw materials, manufacturing sequences and decoration techniques have revealed a wide variety of technical practices throughout the occupation of the site. Most recently, analysis of variations in raw materials and tempers in relation to manufacturing sequences revealed that production was mostly carried out at house level, with the producers in each house implementing their own clay recipe and pot-forming method. Here we extend this research by comparing data on pot-forming and decoration at Cuiry-lès-Chaudardes. In this new study, no obvious relationships could be observed between pottery manufacturing sequences and decoration. However, comparison of the various house assemblages indicates a possible link between atypical decoration (i.e. non-local LBK styles) and exogenous pot-forming methods. Although requiring validation on a larger sample of ceramic assemblages from other sites, these preliminary observations provide some new insights into the complex dynamics at play in LBK settlements. and Článek vychází ze společného výzkumného projektu zaměřeného na keramický soubor ze sídliště LBK Cuirylès-Chaudardes (Pikardie, severovýchodní Francie). V rámci tohoto projektu byly studovány různé kroky výroby keramiky na úrovni domácnosti: komplexní průzkum surovin, výrobních postupů a výzdobných technik odhalil vysokou variabilitu technických praktik v průběhu osídlení lokality.
Analogie vyčleněných variant se objevují od počátků výroby keramiky a varianty cedníků k filtraci tekutin od doby bronzové i v kovovém provedení. and The find inventory from the Stradonice oppidum includes special perforated ceramic shapes of different purpose. Apart from the traditionally supposed use for dairy products processing, relationship with the preparation of alcoholic beverages is stressed for certain variants. Large group of shapes with perforations belongs to technical ceramics, designed to handle hot materials. Analogies of the selected variants appear from the origins of pottery production, and there is also metal version of colanders for filtration of liquids since the Bronze Age.
Definuje hypotetické vazby mezi keramikou a komplexem pece, počínaje nevyzvednutými vsádkami a konče soubory tvořenými běžným sídlištním odpadem, a vyvozuje archeologické důsledky daných vztahů. Prostějov, a z rovinného sídliště v Hostivicích, okr. Praha-západ. Získané výsledky jsou diskutovány v rámci dalších poznatků získaných v širším kontextu střední Evropy. and Identifying the relationship between pottery firing structures and ceramics that have been found in their spatial context is a key step in the pursuit of understanding the use of a particular type of pottery firing structure and consequently also in the study of the organisation of pottery production. The article focuses on the possibilities of the study of the relationship between La Tène pottery kilns and the ceramic assemblages found in the features representing the remains of these kilns. We define hypothetical relationships between ceramics and a kiln complex, starting with uncollected pottery loads and ending with assemblages representing common settlement refuse, and draw the consequences of these relationships for the character of the archaeological record. Quantitative analysis of formal and technological variability coupled with analysis of fragmentation in the context of other ceramic assemblages from the site is crucial for an interpretation of relationships between the assemblages and the kilns. This approach is demonstrated in two case studies. The first case is from the Staré Hradisko oppidum (Malé Hradisko, Prostějov district), the second from an open land settlement in Hostivice (Praha-západ district). The results are discussed in the framework of other knowledge gained in the wider context of Central Europe.
To pochopitelně vyvolává úvahy o jeho funkci a historickém významu. and The early medieval stronghold in Libušín (district of Kladno, Central Bohemia) is an important archaeological site for a number of reasons, foremost of which is the stronghold’s position in the centre of Bohemia – a territory that is connected with the beginnings of the Přemyslid reign and therefore the origins of the Czech state. Large-scale excavations have also made Libušín one of the best investigated early medieval strongholds in Bohemia. Furthermore, Libušín is remarkable for the ingenious combination of several types of walls in the stronghold’s fortifications. As such, the site has traditionally attracted a great deal of professional interest. This article offers a new interpretation of key find situations and assemblages of artefacts, one that differs from earlier conclusions published at the beginning of the 1970s. Among other things, the author attempts to show that the stronghold in Libušín was not built at the turn of the 10th century as previously believed, but probably during the second third of the 10th century, at the earliest. This dating naturally raises new questions about the stronghold’s function and, hence, its historical importance.
Middle Neolithic, Early and Late Bronze Age (as well as some Middle Ages) human occupation was investigated during two separate excavations. This paper assesses findings obtained from features with artifacts from Linear Pottery Culture and the Želiezovce Group. Three graves containing human skeletons were also excavated. One adult skull possessed a wound most probably caused by a sharp object (a stone axe?). Within the pottery assemblage basic typological shapes prevail – globular and semi globular vessels, bowls and necked vessels. There is only a small number of footed bowls. The applied decoration scale shows basic decorative elements of carved and plastic decoration. When a cut was applied, it interrupted the carved line or finished it. Rarely, the inventory contained a painted band, made up by a carved twinline in red colour. Rare finds include polished industry, bone artefacts, as well as an incomplete anthropomorphic figurine. Lithic artefacts were common and were manufactured from local as well as imported raw materials., Ivan Cheben, Michal Cheben., and Obsahuje seznam literatury
