The cold pressor test (CPT) triggers in healthy subjects a vascular sympathetic activation and an increase in blood pressure. The heart rate (HR) response to this test is less well defined, with a high inter-individual variability. We used traditional spectral analysis together with the non-linear detrended fluctuation analysis to study the autonomic control of HR during a 3-min CPT. 39 healthy young subjects (23.7 ± 3.2 years, height 180.4 ± 4.7 cm and weight 73.3 ± 6.4 kg) were divided into two groups according to their HR responses to CPT. Twenty subjects have a sustained increase in HR throughout the test with reciprocal autonomic interaction, i.e. increase in sympathetic activity and decrease vagal outflow. In the 19 remainders, HR decreased after an initial increase, with indication of involvement of both sympathetic and vagal outflow. Baseline evaluation of the subjects revealed no difference between the two groups. Nevertheless, a higher sympathetic activity at the skin level during CPT was present in the group with decreased HR. This article is a digest of fractal geometry including various definitions of fractals and their typical attributes. A great attention is paid to the fractal dimension as a basic parameter characterising the fractal nature. Also a list of significant fractal dimensions and recipes for their calculation is presented what can be considered as a ground for fractal analysis interfering in more and more scientific fields not excepting optics. and Předložený příspěvek obsahuje stručnou rešerši z oblasti fraktální geometrie. Jsou zde uvedeny definice fraktálu a jeho typické vlastnosti. Velká část pozornosti je věnována dimenzi fraktálu jakožto základnímu parametru, pomocí kterého je fraktál charakterizován. Obsahem příspěvku je také výčet význačných typů dimenzí fraktálu, které se v souvislosti s danou problematikou definují, přičemž u vybraných typů dimenzí jsou naznačeny způsoby jejich výpočtu. A právě výpočet dimenze tvoří základ fraktální analýzy, která čím dál víc prostupuje do různých vědních oborů, optiku nevyjímaje.
Fraktální analýza růstu zhoubných nádorů ukázala, že růst má univerzální charakter, stejný pro všechny druhy nádorů zkoumaných in vivo či kultivovaných in vitro. Škálovací zákony pro růst nádorů jsou stejné jako pro růst epitaxních vrstev z molekulárních svazků. Z toho vyplývá, že nejdůležitějším mechanismem růstu nádoru je difuze rakovinných buněk po jeho povrchu do míst, ve kterých se mohou nejsnáze dále dělit. Nádory se zvětšují lineárně s časem a mají superhrubý povrch. Stimulací imunitní odpovědi lze změnit dynamiku růstu nádorů a nakonec i jejich další růst zastavit. Tato nová, nadějná terapie nádorů se osvědčila na pokusných zvířatech a v jednom případě i na člověku. In this paper we attempt to form a neural network to code nonlinear iterated function system. Our approach to this problem consists of finding an error function which will be minimized when the network coded attractor is equal to the desired attractor. First, we start with a given iterated function system attractor, with a random set of weights of the network. Second, we compare the consequent images using this neural network with the original image. On the basis of the result of this comparison, we can update the weight functions and the code of the nonlinear iterated function system (NLIFS). A common metric or error function used to compare between the two image fractal attractors is the Hausdorff distance. The error function gives us good means to measurement the difference between the two images.
We construct a class of special homogeneous Moran sets, called {mk}-quasi homogeneous Cantor sets, and discuss their Hausdorff dimensions. By adjusting the value of {mk}k\geqslant 1, we constructively prove the intermediate value theorem for the homogeneous Moran set.
