Předmětem této studie je publikace výsledků výzkumu velkého pravěkého ohrazení, prvního areálu svého druhu v Čechách, ověřeného výzkumem. Projekt byl realizován jako pokus o získání co nejvíce relevantních poznatků o morfologii, stáří, funkci a vztahu areálu k přirozenému okolí v hustě osídlené krajině poblíž soutoku Labe s Vltavou, a to kombinací několika nedestruktivních metod (letecký a geofyzikální průzkum, povrchové sběry) a plošně omezeného výkopu. V tomto procesu bylo zjištěno, že objekt je možné jednoznačně přiřadit ke skupině velkých příkopových ohrazení (Erdwerke, Grabenwerke) michelsberské kultury, které jsou známy z oblasti mezi Pařížskou kotlinou, Porýním a Pomohaním a které jsou datovány do starší fáze okruhu eneolitické kultury s nálevkovitými poháry. Ohrazení sestává ze dvou paralelních přerušovaných příkopů a pravděpodobně souvislého palisádového žlabu. Areál, kde je ohrazení umístěno, byl osídlen již v neolitu a následně i v době bronzové, kdy se sídelní aktivita koncentruje do západního výběžku areálu. Výzkum prokázal, že se nejednalo o souvislé (kruhové, oválné) ohrazení prostoru, systém příkopů a palisády přetnul šíji labského meandru v nejužším místě podobným způsobem, jakým bývaly v pravěku/raném středověku opevňovány strategické polohy na ostrožnách. Tulipánovitý pohár nalezený na dně vnitřního příkopu bezpečně datuje ohrazení do starší fáze michelsberské kultury (cca 4000 př. Kr.). and THE LARGE PREHISTORIC ENCLOSURE AT KLY (MĚLNÍK DISTRICT); THE USE OF NON–DESTRUCTIVE INVESTIGATIVE METHODS TO GAIN AN UNDERSTANDING OF A NEW TYPE OF SITE. The subject of this study is the publication of the results of the investigation of a large prehistoric enclosure, the first site of its type in Bohemia to be confirmed by excavation. The project was conducted as an attempt to retrieve the greatest possible amount of relevant data regarding the morphology, age, function and relationship of the site to the natural environment in a densely settled landscape close to the confluence of the rivers Labe (Elbe) and Vltava (Moldau); moreover, this was to be achieved by a combination of several non–destructive methods (aerial survey, geophysical prospection, surface artefact collection) and limited open–area excavation. It was found that the feature could unequivocally be classified among that group of large ditch enclosures (Erdwerke, Grabenwerke) of the Michelsberg culture known from areas between the Parisian Basin, the Rhineland and the Main, dated to the earlier phase of the Eneolithic Funnel Beaker culture. The enclosure consists of two parallel, interrupted ditches, and a probably uninterrupted palisade trench. The area in which the enclosure is located was settled in the Neolithic and subsequently in the Bronze Age, when settlement activity concentrated on its western protrusion. Research showed that this was not a continuous (round, oval) enclosure of space, but that the system of ditches and palisades cut across the nape of a meander on the Labe, at the narrowest possible point, in a similar way to that in which during prehistory and the Early Middle Ages strategic points on spurs were fortified. The tulip–shaped beaker found at the base of the inner ditch securely dates the enclosure to the early phase of the Michelsberg culture (c4000 BC).
