A study of working class housing, mainly of working class housing
in working class settlemenents, belonged to the main topics of Czech ethnology and Czech socially oriented historiography before the year 1989. Within the frames of extensive ethnological researches of the Czech lands’ industrial areas both ethnologists and historians paid great attention to working class settlements in Brno, Plzeň, Prague or especially in Ostravian industrial area. Just around Ostrava we can speak about uninterrupted continuity of working class settlements’ research which has remained in the sphere of researchers’ interests also after the year 1989 when the changes in the whole society and the transformation of dominant historical narratives led to a decline of interest in working class housing and settlements. The review article summs up the Czech existing scholarship with special reference to the greater Ostrava area.
This paper seeks to map the main aspects of coexistence of the Czech civilian population of Silesia and northern Moravia, and members of the armed forces in the spring of 1945. Another point of focus is the stereotypes associated with the perception of the „enemy“ and the „liberators“ in the collective memory of the region‘s inhabitants, as well as how these stereotypes changed, depending on social development and time elapsed since the events in question took place. Research predominantly draws on chronicles, memoirs, personal documents and eyewitness testimonies.
The publication dissects media perception of environmental issues within Ostrava region. Media are those who pick the stories edit them and throughout their agenda make shifts in ideas of individuals. In 2010 we have experienced skyrocketing of the media coverage of environmental issues related to Ostrava region, mostly attributed by reporting on air pollution. As available researches witnessed, there is a tight relation in public minds in between City of Ostrava, Ostrava region and Moravian-Silesian Region. This fact makes the research easier in the way we could often take in Moravian-Silesian Region figures as to be valid for the City of Ostrava as well as for Ostrava region and vice versa. The objective of the paper is to prove ahypothesis, that media have retained the coverage intensity of agiven topic as they did in 2010., Pavel Herot., and Obsahuje seznam literatury
