Studie přináší zprávu o výsledcích komplexně pojatého výzkumu dvojdílného, příkopem ohrazeného areálu z konce raného středověku v Ledčicích (okr. Mělník). Areál objevený při letecké prospekci byl podroben opakovanému geofyzikálnímu měření a sondáži, doplněné namátkovým povrchovým sběrem. Analýza leteckých snímků a výsledky dosažené uvedenými postupy terénního výzkumu prokázaly současnost obou hlavních komponent areálu; rozbor nálezového souboru datuje jeho existenci do 1. pol. 13. století. V kontextu dosavadních znalostí o podobě sídelních/hospodářských jednotek pozemkové šlechty představuje ledčický areál ojedinělou situaci, která zachycuje jednak v úplnosti tvar a velikost vlastního jádra (dvojdílného) dvora a jednak ohrazení přiléhajícího prostoru. and This paper reports on the results of a comprehensive investigation of a two-part ditched enclosure from the final part of the Early Middle Ages near Ledčice (Mělník distr.). The site discovered via aerial reconnaissance was plough-walked, subjected to a geophysical survey and test excavated. The analysis of aerial photographs and data from the aforementioned field methods has demonstrated the contemporaneity of the two enclosures; pottery fragments date the site to the first half of the 13th century. In the context of the current state of research on the settlements of early country lords, the Ledčice site represents a unique situation with the complete ground-plan and size of such settlement (a two-part ditched enclosure as its principal component) and also a few components outside the central feature.
Stále ještě neexistuje lepší vysvětlení než závěr, že lidé, kteří tyto odlišné postupy užívali, sami sebe nazývali Slovany. and The author presents the ideological system of the Old Slavs, which was used as the basis for comprehensive territorial units (župe), which gave the people their identity. The complex cooking system is also described. This appeared in the Balkans in the 7th and 8th centuries as a new system that was quite different from the previous system. There is still no better explanation for its appearance than that it was established by the people who named themselves Slavs.
Revize lokalizovaných nálezů středověké keramiky získaných povrchovými sběry v okolí kdysi knížecího hradu a od 13. stol. královského města Jaroměře, ležícího na samém okraji staré sídelní oblasti, dospívá k závěru o stabilní struktuře raně středověkého osídlení. Před 13. stol. středověké osídlení nepřekročilo hranice staré sídelní oblasti. Proměnu okolí nově založeného města, projevující se ovšem i v přenesení vsí do nových poloh, doprovázel v nejbližším sousedství Jaroměře zánik několika sídel se staršími kořeny bez nástupce a krátkodobé osídlení několika poloh. Nejstarší doklady působení pozemkové šlechty evidujeme takřka současně na sledovaném okraji staré sídelní oblasti i v nově osídlovaných krajích, leč ve zcela odlišných proporcích. Autor se v rámci evidence středověkých lokalit na sledovaném území před výstavbou dálnice pokouší postihnout příčiny uvedených jevů. and A review of the extensive collection of localised medieval pottery finds acquired via surface collection in the vicinity of the Přemyslid castle and – from the 13th century – royal town of Jaroměř (NE Bohemia) lying on the edge of the old settlement area shows that early medieval settlement was of a stable structure. Before the 13th century, medieval settlement did not extend beyond the boundaries of the „old settled“ area. Changes in the surroundings of the newly founded town, expressed, of course, also in the shift of villages onto new sites, were accompanied by the disappearance of several older settlements without their replacement and by the short-term settlement of several other sites. The oldest documented activities of the landed nobility are found almost simultaneously on the studied edge of the old settlement area as well as in newly settled lands, though in entirely different proportions. Using data from medieval sites in the studied area, prior to the construction of the motorway, the author attempts to capture the causes of the aforementioned phenomena.
Studie shrnuje poznatky z revizního průzkumu zlomku kovového předmětu z akropole hradiště v Libici nad Cidlinou, interpretovaného doposud jako fragment raně středověkého zvonu. Na základě morfologického a typologického rozboru, metalografické analýzy, chemických expertíz i zhodnocení výpovědní schopnosti archeologického kontextu autoři vylučují takovou interpretaci a dokazují, že se jedná o zlomek okraje hmoždíře či jiného litinového odlitku z dob průmyslové revoluce nebo i mladší. and The study summarizes information from the review of the fragment of a metal object from the acropolis of the fortified settlement in Libice nad Cidlinou from the collections of the National Museum in Prague interpreted heretofore as a fragment of an early medieval bell. On the basis of morphological and typological analyses, metallographic examination, chemical expertise and an evaluation of the testimonial capability of the archaeological context, the authors rule out the original interpretation and demonstrate that the object is a fragment of the rim of a mortar or other cast-iron product from the period of the Industrial Revolution or even later.
V závěru jsou poznatky konfrontovány s dosavadním pojetím tzv. přemyslovské domény. and The text addresses early medieval strongholds in the central part of Bohemia – the territory connected with the beginnings of the Přemyslid dynasty and the origin of the early Czech state. We first deal with the dating of strongholds, mostly on the basis of archaeological sources alone. The chronology of these buildings has been elaborated significantly in recent years. On the basis of a synoptic review a summary of the development of strongholds during the 9th and 10th centuries is then presented. The conclusion offers a comparison of this new information with existing concepts of the “Přemyslid domain,” which, in the author’s opinion, requires revision.
Polemicky zaměřená stať na základě nepočetných písemných a početnějších archeologických pramenů spojuje šíření kultury s keramikou pražského typu s přesunem gentes, později nazývaných především Venedi a Sklavini, do střední Evropy. Nálezy z území Slovanů (Avarů, Gepidů, Bavorů ad.) neprezentují symbolicky vyjadřovanou „identitu“; archeolog provádí vždy unikátní interpretaci komplexu hmotných a písemných pramenů; v soustavném interpretačním kruhu se vytváří horizont smyslu, v němž lze rozpoznávat a vydělovat fakta. and This polemically written text, based on scanty data from written sources and on more abundant archaeological evidence, links the propagation of Prague-type pottery culture (henceforth PTPC) with the advance of the gentes, referred to later especially as Venedi and Sclavini, into central Europe. Our sources point to their continuity with later early medieval settlement from the times when written sources attest to the presence of Slavs, in particular Bohemani or Czechs, on Bohemian territory. On the other hand, a discontinuity with the preceding settlement of the later stage of the Migration period, traditionally ascribed to Germanic population groups, may be observed. Finds from the territory of the Slavs (Avars, Gepids, Bavarians, etc.) do not represent a symbolically expressed „identity“. Archaeology always carries out a case-by-case interpretation of the complex of material and written sources; a „horizon of sense“, in which facts may be discerned and singled out, thus emerges in a systematic interpretational circle.
Hlavní pozornost věnovali autoři topografii lokality, vymezení základních vývojových fází a jejich absolutní chronologii a charakteristice jednotlivých etap archeologického výzkumu. and This article summarises the results of over a century of archaeological investigations at the Early Medieval castle at Libice nad Cidlinou and its agglomeration. Although the size of the archaeologically assessed area ranks Libice as one of the foremost early medieval centres, the insufficient state of processing calls for a clearly defined focus and, more particularly, research aims. Here the authors have concentrated on the topography of the site, the delimitation of the major developmental phases and their absolute chronology, and the characteristics of the various phases of archaeological investigation.
Výsledky probíhajících projektů a nedávných archeologických výzkumů vyvolaly nutnost aktualizovat dosud publikované poznatky o raně středověkém vývoji dnešní Malé Strany, území, kde se v raném středověku pod hradem přemyslovských knížat rozkládalo opevněné suburbium. Cílem příspěvku není vyčerpávající syntéza, ale stručná rekapitulace nynějšího stavu znalostí dějinných počátků této části historického jádra Prahy. Doplňuje ji bilance pramenné základny, přehled bádání a nástin používané metodiky terénní exkavace. and Participation in ongoing projects necessitated an update of information published to date on the Early Medieval development of Malá Strana [Lesser Town], an area below the Prague Castle of Přemyslid rulers where a fortified suburbium was located. The goal of this paper is to present a concise review of the latest knowledge regarding the historical beginnings of this micro-region of the historical centre of Prague. The review is supplemented by the source base, a summary of research and applied methodology for terrain excavations.
Seznamuje čtenáře s metodou metalografického hodnocení bočních nábrusů čepelí a s vyhodnocováním získaných výsledků. and The traditional morphological examinations of knives yields only part of the information that can be deduced from these finds, as it contains no evaluation of either type of construction or of overall quality. Only an archaeometallurgical investigation can answer such questions, and therefore occupies a unique in the general preparations preceding restoration. The aim of this article is to set out the role and potential of archaeometallurgy in connection with the restoration survey of medieval knives; it introduces the reader to the method of metallographic evaluation of the lateral grinding of blades, and with the evaluation of the results obtained.
Sídelní komplex Mikulčice – Kopčany patří z hlediska dobového významu i možností dnešního výzkumu k nejvýznamnějším centrům Velké Moravy. Výsledky padesátiletého výzkumu představují obrovský a nesmírně hodnotný pramenný fond. Článek shrnuje stav sídelně-archeologické problematiky a metodické problémy výzkumu. and The settlement complex at Mikulčice and Kopčany is, from the point of view of period importance and the opportunities afforded by current research, among the most important of the Great Moravian centres. The results of the 50-year long investigation represent an enormous and incomparably valuable finds resource. Today’s attempt at its systematic processing must deal in particular with the differing quality of fieldwork undertaken between 1954 and 1992. This article summarises the status of settlement archaeological problem areas, and the methodological problems of the research.
