2. Changes in biomass, chlorophyll content and gas exchange of beans and peppers under nitrogen and water stress

- Description:
- We experimentally produced moderate water stress that reduced leaf, stem, root and fruit biomass of peppers, and severe nitrogen (N) limitations that almost stopped their development. Root/shoot ratios (R/S) were higher in N-limited plants. Low water availability (and also low N availability) produced lower stomatal conductance (g,). Specific leaf mass was higher and chlorophyll (Chl) concentration was lower under low N-availability. The same experimental conditions produced smaller differences among treatments in beans (with N-fixing symbionts). Water stress increased its relative importance as shown by the induced increase in root/shoot ratio. N stress was less important as shown by the absence of effects on Chl concentrations and g^. Both peppers and beans responded to limited availability of nitrogen and water by allocating to structures involved in uptake (roots), by longer organ duration, and by increasing the efficiency of N and water use.

3. On the development and life cycle of Spirocamallanus mysti (Nematoda: Camallanidae)

- Subject:
- Spirocamallanus, copepods, life cycle, and Mystus
- Language:
- English
- Description:
- The development of Spirocamallanus mysti (Karve, 1952) was studied in the copepod hosts Mesocyclops crassus (Fischer) and M. leuckarti (Claus) and in the fish host Mystus viltatus (Bloch). When eaten by copepods the first-stage larvae burrow through the intestinal wall into the haemocoel and there they moulted twice to become the third, infective stage. The first moulting occurred on day 4 p.i. at 18-2ГС (on day 6 p.i. at 16-20"C) and the second moultingoccurred on day 8 p.i. at 18-19.5"C (on day 11 p.i. at 16-20"C. Further development occurred only after reaching the stomach of the fish definitive host. In the fish stomach two more larval moultings occurred, the third on day 15 p.i. and the fourth (final) on day 37 p.i. in “male” larvae and day 67 p.i. in “female” larvae. The individual developmental stages and the morphological changes occurring during development are described in detail.

- Subject:
- Serbian studies, gospels, and methodology
- Language:

- Description:
- The excerption base originated from Miroslav´s Gospel (total excerption) and according to it other apracoses and tetras which supplemented the apracos text were excerpted as well. Vulkan´s Gospel, as the most important next to Miroslav´s Gospel, was excerpted right after. They don´t belong to the same text version. The material contains thirty five Serbian gospels (together with fragments the number is forty two) and they are being compared with five classical Old Church Slavonic manuscripts. Excerpted data count just about 100.000 cards.

- Description:
- The possibility to search electronically very large corpora of texts has opened up ways in which we can truly evaluate the rules through which grammarians have tried and continue to try to simulate natural languages. However, the possibility to handle incredibly large amounts of texts might lead to problems with the assessment of certain phenomena that are hardly ever represented in those corpora and yet, have always been regarded as grammatically correct elements of a given language. In German, typical phenomena of this kind are forms like betrögest or erwögest, i.e. second person singular of the so-called strong verbs in the subjunctive mood. Should we see them merely as grammarians’ inventions? Before doing so, we should reconsider the nature of these phenomena. They may appear to be isolated word forms but, in fact, are compact realizations of syntactic constructions, and it is the frequency of these constructions that should be evaluated, not the frequency of their specific realizations. and Možnost prohledávat velmi rozsáhlé korpusy textů pomocí elektronických nástrojů ukazuje cesty, jak evaluovat pravidla, jimiž se lingvisté snažili a stále snaží simu-lovat přirozený jazyk.
