- Language:

- Description:
- The present study devises two techniques for visualizing biological sequence data clusterings. The Sequence Data Density Display (SDDD) and Sequence Likelihood Projection (SLP) visualizations represent the input symbolical sequences in a lower-dimensional space in such a way that the clusters and relations of data elements are preserved as faithfully as possible. The resulting unified framework incorporates directly raw symbolical sequence data (without necessitating any preprocessing stage), and moreover, operates on a pure unsupervised basis under complete absence of prior information and domain knowledge.

- Description:
K prvním zajímavým výsledkům patří zaznamenání 8 případů průkazného zahnízdění nepůvodního invazního druhu - husice nilské (Alopochen aegyptiaca)., The current breeding mapping in 2014-17 is the fourth mapping organized in the Czech Republic since the 1970s. Results of previous mapping attempts are summarized in three Atlases of breeding birds. This article is a call for the cooperation of Živa readers. It also presents pilot results from the first year (2014) of field work, based on records from 271 contributors who covered 61 % of the whole territory of the Czech Republic. One of the interesting results is the map of breeding distribution of the invasive Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca), with 8 confirmed breedings., and Karel Šťastný, Vladimír Bejček.

- Description:
- We consider the class H0 of sense-preserving harmonic functions f = h + \bar g defined in the unit disk |z| < 1 and normalized so that h(0) = 0 = h′(0) − 1 and g(0) = 0 = g′(0), where h and g are analytic in the unit disk. In the first part of the article we present two classes PH0(α) and GH0(β) of functions from H0 and show that if f \in PH0(α) and F \in GH0(β), then the harmonic convolution is a univalent and close-to-convex harmonic function in the unit disk provided certain conditions for parameters α and β are satisfied. In the second part we study the harmonic sections (partial sums) {s_{n,n}}\left( f \right)\left( z \right) = {s_n}\left( h \right)\left( z \right) + \overline {{s_n}\left( g \right)\left( z \right)} , where f = h + \bar g \in H0, sn(h) and sn(g) denote the n-th partial sums of h and g, respectively. We prove, among others, that if f = h + \bar g \in H0 is a univalent harmonic convex mapping, then sn,n(f) is univalent and close-to-convex in the disk |z| < 1/4 for n ≥ 2, and sn,n(f) is also convex in the disk |z| < 1/4 for n ≥ 2 and n ≠ 3. Moreover, we show that the section s3,3(f) of f \in CH0 is not convex in the disk |z| < 1/4 but it is convex in a smaller disk., Liulan Li, Saminathan Ponnusamy., and Obsahuje seznam literatury

- mapping, activation, recovery, and human heart
- Language:

- Description:
- Peroperative epicardial mapping of activation, recovery and activation-recovery intervals in the human heart has been performed in a group of 12 patients. These patients had the coronary disease but electrocardiograms with normal characteristics. For this mapping, 240 unipolar electrograms were simultaneously recorded with the system SATAPEC built in our laboratory. The results confirm the classical data obtained on the dog heart. In particular, it was well established that the duration of activation corresponding to activation-recovery intervals is shorter at the base than at the apex of the posterior surface of the heart. With SATAPEC it is very easy to obtain epicardial mapping of electrical activity in a few minutes during open heart surgery.

- Description:
- Topsoil field-saturated hydraulic conductivity, Kfs, is a parameter that controls the partition of rainfall between infiltration and runoff and is a key parameter in most distributed hydrological models. There is a mismatch between the scale of local in situ Kfs measurements and the scale at which the parameter is required in models for regional mapping. Therefore methods for extrapolating local Kfs values to larger mapping units are required. The paper explores the feasibility of mapping Kfs in the Cévennes-Vivarais region, in south-east France, using more easily available GIS data concerning geology and land cover. Our analysis makes uses of a data set from infiltration measurements performed in the area and its vicinity for more than ten years. The data set is composed of Kfs derived from infiltration measurements performed using various methods: Guelph permeameters, double ring and single ring infiltrotrometers and tension infiltrometers. The different methods resulted in a large variation in Kfs up to several orders of magnitude. A method is proposed to pool the data from the different infiltration methods to create an equivalent set of Kfs. Statistical tests showed significant differences in Kfs distributions in function of different geological formations and land cover. Thus the mapping of Kfs at regional scale was based on geological formations and land cover. This map was compared to a map based on the Rawls and Brakensiek (RB) pedotransfer function (mainly based on texture) and the two maps showed very different patterns. The RB values did not fit observed equivalent Kfs at the local scale, highlighting that soil texture alone is not a good predictor of Kfs.

- Description:
- Our main objective was to test whether chronic orthostatic body position induces network changes in the saphenous vein superficial tributary system of the rat. Fourteen male Sprague-Dawley rats were kept in tilted tube cages (45º head-up position) for two weeks to induce chronic gravitational load to their leg veins. Ten animals housed in normal cages and four animals kept in horizontally positioned tube cages served as controls. The whole superficial network of the left saphenous vein was microprepared surgically under anesthesia, superfused with saline and observed under a videomicroscope, while normal flow and pressure were maintained in the lumen. Branching angles, lengths of venous segments and their diameters were measured offline from digitized images using special image-analyzing software. Several branching angles at the popliteal confluence were significantly reduced by 12.5-15.8 %. The in vivo diameter of the main branch (936±34 vs. 805±44 µm) and of one of the popliteal tributaries (776±38 vs. 635±36 µm) increased (p<0.05), comparing vessels from tilted animals with those from normal controls. Maintaining the animals in horizontal tube cages did not induce the above alterations. The increased diameters and reduced branching angles of the saphenous vein network observed are adaptive responses of the venous network to a long-term gravitational load., M. Lóránt, G. L.
