The Centre for Science and Technology Studies of Leiden University organized the 11th International Conference on Science and Technology Indicators 8 - 11 September in Leiden. Science and technology indicators have become an increasingly important instrument for science policy and research management. The assessment of strengths and weaknesses of a country’s science system, ranking, benchmarking and classification of universities, finding excellence in research, identification of emerging and often interdisciplinary research themes, measuring knowledge transfer between academia and industry - all these examples show the value of S&T indicators for users. and Petr Ráb.
The project International Audit of Research, Development and Innovations in the Czech Republic and Implementation of its Conclusions into Strategic Documents provides an external and independent evaluation of the research, development and innovation system in the Czech Republic and its current results. Further conditions for personal and professional growth of, in particular, young researchers in different types of institutions involved in science and research is analysed along with the efficiency of post-graduate studies. The project also focuses on an analysis of relations between academic and industrial sectors and the status of intellectual property protection. Project results will be implemented into the updated Reform of the Research, Development and Innovation System in the Czech Republic and National Policy of Research, Deve-lopment and Innovations in the Czech Republic between 2009 and 2015, for the purpose of enhancing the efficiency of public support. The continuing development and improvement of the Academy´s Strategy AV 21 innovative project was one of the item at the Academy Assembly´s XLVIII Meeting. One of its task was also the Evaluation of the Research and Professional Activities of the Institutes of the CAS. The research evaluation of the Institutes of the CAS for the 2010-2014 period was focused on individual assessment units within individual Institutes; each assessment unit was evaluated by one of 13 field panels. The Academy Assembly is the foremost priority decision-making body of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
