Článek se zabývá analýzou tří autobiografií osob s autismem přeložených do češtiny – Nikdo nikde (Donna Williams), Život za sklem (Wendy Lawson) a Život s Aspergerovým syndromem: příběh psychoterapie (Christine Preissmann). Popisuje, jak autorky referují o svých specifických příznacích a zájmech, rodinných a partnerských vztazích a kariérách. Analyzuje, jaké strategie zvolily pro boj s autistickým postižením. Dochází k závěru, že lidé s autismem považují za nejtěžší jiné příznaky autismu, než bývá tradičně popisováno v učebnicích a monografiích o autismu. V případě těchto tří autobiografií je subjektivně nejhůře snášeno „smyslové přetížení“ ve vypjatých situacích. and Autobiographies of persons with autism: unknown views on inner experience of autistic handicap
The article analyses three autobiographies of autistic individuals translated into the Czech language – Nobody nowhere (Donna Williams), Life behind glass (Wendy Lawson), and Life with Asperger syndrome: a story of psychotherapy (Christine Preissmann). It shows, how the authors describe their specific symptoms and interests, family and partner relationships and career. The analysis focuses on strategies that were selected by the authors for coping with the autistic handicap. It comes to a conclusion that autistic persons consider different symptoms to be the worst than those conventionally described in textbooks and monographs on autism. In these three autobiographies, sensory overload in stressful situations was estimated from the subjective point of view to be the most unpleasant symptom.
Současné údaje o vysoké prevalenci (až 1% populace) poruch autistického spektra (PAS) stimulují výzkum časné identifikace těchto poruch. Článek představuje přehled současných poznatků o časné autistické symptomatologii a metodách časné diagnostiky PAS. Podrobně jsou popsány hlavní screeningové studie provedené celopopulačně či na souboru mladších rizikových sourozenců dětí s PAS. Diskutovány jsou parametry screeningových nástrojů Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (CHAT), Modified – Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT), Quantitative Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (Q-CHAT), Early Screening of Autistic Traits (ESAT), Infant Toddler Checklist (ITC) a First Year Inventory (FYI). V závěru je shrnut význam časné intervence., Current findings on high prevalence (up to 1%) of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) encourage further research in the field of early identifica(ion of these disorders. The article presents a review of current knowledge on early autistic symptomatology as well as on the methods of early diagnosis of ASD. Main screening studies carried out both on general population and sam- pies of high-risk siblings of children already diagnosed with ASD are analysed. Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impairments in communication, social interaction, restricted interests and repetitive behavior. The etiology of autism is poorly understood, the evidence indicates that inflammation may play a key role. In autism a high prevalence of gastrointestinal disturbances is reported, that are linked to a low-grade chronic inflammation of the intestinal mucosa. High mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1) is an intranuclear protein that can be passively released from necrotic cells or actively secreted under inflammatory conditions as alarmin or late proinflammatory cytokine. The objective of this study was to measure plasma levels of HMGB1 in individuals with autism and to analyze their association with gastrointestinal symptoms. The study involved 31 subjects with low-functioning autistic disorder aged 2-22 years and 16 healthy controls. Plasma HMGB1 levels were significantly higher in individuals with autism than in controls (13.8±11.7 ng/ml vs. 7.90±4.0 ng/ml, p<0.02). In subjects with plasma HMGB1levels higher than 11 ng/ml severe forms of GI disorders were more prevalent (83.3 %) than in subjects with lower levels (38.9 %, p<0.04). Záměry. Cílem studie bylo: (a) ověřit faktorovou strukturu českých překladů Baron-Cohenových inventářů AQ, SQ a EQ; (b) zkoumat rozdíly v autistických rysech, empatii a systemizaci mezi studenty exaktních a humanitních věd i mezi muži a ženami; (c) hledat možné korelace mezi skóry v Baron-Cohenových dotaznících a pěti obecnými dimenzemi osobnosti, měřenými NEO-FFI. Soubor a procedura. Výzkumný soubor sestával z 268 studentů Přírodovědecké fakulty UP a 348 studentů Filozofické fakulty UP. Ženy tvořily 75 % souboru. Studenti vyplňovali dotazníky s pomocí webové aplikace. Statistická analýza. K ověření faktorové struktury Baron-Cohenových inventářů byla použita konfirmační faktorová analýza. Účinek pohlaví, oboru studia a jejich interakce byl zkoumán s pomocí ANOVY. Vztah mezi měřenými proměnnými byl zjišťován na základě výpočtu Pearsonovy korelace. Možné zkreslení opakovaného testování bylo korigováno Bonferroniho metodou. Výsledky. Konfirmační faktorová analýza potvrdila čtyřfaktorový model SQ a třífaktorový model EQ. Do určité míry také podpořila pětifaktorový model AQ. Studenti exaktních věd měli signifikantně vyšší skóry v Kvocientu systemizace než studenti humanitních oborů. Ženy skórují významně výše než muži v Kvocientu empatie a níže v Kvocientu systemizace. Autistické rysy, měřené AQ, záporně korelují s empatií i dimenzí extraverze NEO-FFI a záporně s neuroticismem. Úroveň empatie koresponduje s extraverzí. AQ negativně koreluje s EQ. Omezení studie. Studie byla uskutečněna na dvou fakultách jedné moravské univerzity. Ve výzkumném souboru byl větší počet žen (75 %) než mužů. Data byla získána prostřednictvím webové aplikace., Objectives. The study was aimed: (a) to verify the factor structure of Czech translations of the Baron-Cohen’s inventories AQ, SQ, and EQ; (b) to explore the differences in autistic features, level of empathy and systemizing between the exact sciences and humanities students, and between men and women; (c) to find possible correlation among the scores in Baron-Cohen’s questionnaires and five general personality dimensions, measured by NEO-FFI. Sample and setting. The research sample consisted of 268 students from the Faculty of Science PU and 349 students from the Philosophical Faculty PU in Olomouc. Women comprised 75 % of the sample. Participants filled in inventories using web application specifically prepared for the research. Statistical analysis. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to verify the factor structure of the Baron-Cohen’s inventories. Effects of gender, field of study, and their interaction on dependant variables were explored by ANOVA. The relationships between measured variables were examined by Pearson’s correlation. The potential bias of repeated testing was corrected by Bonferroni’s method. Results. CFA confirmed the four-factor model of SQ, and the three-factor model of EQ. It also revealed support for the five-factor model of AQ. The exact sciences students scored significantly higher on the Systemizing Quotient than humanities students. Women are significantly higher than men on the Empathy Quotient and lower on the Systemizing Quotient. The autistic features, measured by AQ, negatively correlate with NEO-FFI dimension Extraversion and positively with Neuroticism. The level of empathy appeared to correspond to the Extraversion. AQ correlated negatively with EQ. Study limitation. The study was realised at two faculties of one Moravian university. There was a greater proportion of women (75%) than men in the research sample. Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are neurodevelopmental conditions characterized by impairment in social communication and presence of stereotyped/restricted behaviors. Children with ASD very often demonstrate co-morbid psychiatric problems, problems known to be affected by testosterone in neurotypical populations. However, there are few reports investigating relationships between testosterone and psychiatric conditions in children with ASD. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between plasmatic levels of testosterone and behavioral/emotional problems in pre-pubertal boys with ASD. The study sample consisted of 31 pre-pubertal boys (ages 3-10) with ASD. Parents completed the Nisonger Child Behavior Rating Form (NCBRF) to assess specific behavioral/emotional problems as observed in the previous 2 months. Plasmatic testosterone levels were determined in boys according to standardized procedures. It was found that there were positive correlations between testosterone levels and the conduct problems subscale (p=0.034, rs=0.382) of NCBRF and also between testosterone levels and the hyperactive subscale (p=0.025, rs=0.402) of NCBRF. Findings in this study are in line with research conducted in the neurotypical population. This is the first large study investigating testosterone and emotional/behavioral problems in ASD and warrants further research in this field in order to clarify the etiopathogenesis of psychiatric co-morbidities and improve their treatment., A. Vitamin D had been for a long time investigated for its effects on bone metabolism. Recently has been observed that the incidence of some neurodevelopmental disorders (including autism) increases hand in hand with vitamin D deficiency. Indeed, vitamin D was reported to modulate the biosynthesis of neurotransmitters and neurotrophic factors; moreover, its receptor was found in the central nervous system. Vitamin D deficiency was therefore assessed as a risk factor for autism, however the biological mechanism has not yet been revealed. Autoři se zabývají výzkumným a klinickým využitím vyšetření čichu u neuropsychiatrických poruch. V úvodu zmiňují stručně význam čichu a anatomii čichové dráhy a mozkových čichových center. Přibližují metody vyšetření čichu, zvláště nejčastěji používané testy UPSIT a Sniffin’Sticks. Poruchy čichu jsou jedním z časných příznaků některých těžkých neurodegenerativních onemocnění. U Parkinsonovy a Alzheimerovy nemoci je testování čichu zahrnuto mezi doporučené postupy při diferenciálně diagnostické rozvaze. Nejprozkoumanější psychiatrickou poruchou asociovanou s poruchami čichu je schizofrenie, popsány byly změny při měření čichového prahu, identifikace a diskriminace čichem a čichové paměti. Výsledky několika studií u pacientů s autismem prokázaly deficit čichových funkcí a naznačily možnost využití screeningového vyšetření čichových funkcí jako biobehaviorálního markeru poruch autistického spektra.
