Chronology of the bloomery fields of the Iron Age is a very complex and interesting subject. Usually it can be established by radiocarbon analysis of the organic debris, mainly charcoal fragments, found at the bottom of slag-pit furnaces or by dating archaeological material collected from the sites during excavations. Both methods however, based on very limited material, often provide only broad time frames for the occupation of the sites. In Mazovian Centre of Metallurgy, where several large bloomery fields were located very close to or even within the Iron Age settlements, frequently a number of slag-pit furnaces were recorded in stratigraphic relations with other archaeological features. The chronology of those features could be established more precisely by analysing their archaeological contents. The aim of this paper will be to discuss the chronological implications for the slag-pit furnaces found in such relations. The results of this assessment will be compared with series of radiocarbon measurements from the Mazovian Centre which haven’t been published so far. and Chronologie železářských hutí doby železné je složité téma.
The settlement region in the Opava River basin (Upper Silesia) belonged to the southern periphery of the Przeworsk culture. Settlement activity culminated here during the late and final phase of the Roman Period. Numerous settlements situated on terraces of the river Opava were characterised by local production of wheel-thrown pottery. Despite the somewhat problematic dating of these sites, at least some of them may have belonged to the final phase (C3/D). Besides the above-mentioned region, which was relatively well investigated by archaeologists, settlements of the Przeworsk culture have also penetrated to the less known region of Osoblaha and Vidnava, i.e. as far as to the foothills of the Jeseníky Mts. Two localities, which are supposed to be hilltop settlements dating probably from the end of the Roman Period to the beginning of the Migration Period, were discovered in this hilly landscape. In this context we neither can omit the finds of so-called equestrian nomadic and Hunnic character, which testify that the southern part of the territory of the Przeworsk culture has got under the influence of the Hunnic Empire., Zuzana Loskotová., and Obsahuje seznam literatury
The study is dealing with the question of how hilltop locations in the southern periphery of the Przeworsk culture were colonised at the end of the Roman Period and the beginning of the Migration Period. It is focused in detail on two hilltop sites, which are situated in the region of Osoblaha and Vidnava in the foothills of the Jeseníky Mts. The choice of location and character of finds correspond to some extent to another contemporary situation known from the Polish Jurassic Highland and especially from the area occupied by the Carpathian group of the Przeworsk culture in the Polish Beskids and in North Slovakia. In the first half of the 5th century the southern part of the territory of the Przeworsk culture became an area of interest to the powerful Hunnic Empire, as confirmed by the finds of Hunnic or so-called equestrian nomadic character. and Obsahuje seznam literatury
