- Nothobomolochus cresseyi sp. n. (Copepoda: Bomolochidae), a parasite from gills of the engraulid fish Engraulis anchoita Hubbs et Marini (Pisces: Engraulidae) from the coast of Argentina, is described and illustrated. The new species can be distinguished from other species of Nothobomolochus Vervoort, 1962 by the following combination of characters: three modified setae on the base of the antennule similar in length to the plumose setae, the nature of the armature of the third segment of the fourth endopod and the length and width of the thoracic somites 2 to 4 decreasing gradually. The new species represents the first record of this genus for Argentina.

3. A new species of Paracapillaroides (Nematoda: Capillariidae) parasitizing Nemadactylus bergi (Perciformes: Latridae) from the Argentine Sea

- A new nematode species, Paracapillaroides acanthocotylus sp. n., is described from the marine fish Nemadactylus bergi (Norman) (Latridae, Perciformes) from waters off Mar del Plata, Argentina (38°08'S, 57°32'W) (prevalence 81.8%, mean intensity 12.4 ± 10.3). The new species is readily distinguished from P. agonostomi Moravec, Salgado-Maldonado et Caspeta-Mandujano, 1999, the only known species of the genus, by having in both sexes a longer oesophagus in relation to total body length. Males of the new species have a shorter and more complex spicule and a markedly different morphology of the spicular sheath; the rays supporting the caudal bursa are also shorter and rounded, instead of digitiform. Furthermore, females of the new species have elevated vulval lips and longer eggs. The complex structure of both the spicule and spicular sheath is unique among all capillariids parasitizing cold-blooded vertebrates. This is the first record of a species of Paracapillaroides in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean.

4. Digenetic trematodes parasitic on Engraulis anchoita (Pisces: Engrauiidae) from Argentina and Uruguay

- A total of 2,086 specimens of Engraulis anchoita Hubbs ct Marini (Pisces: Engrauiidae), from waters off Argentina and Uruguay were examined lor parasitic digeneans. Four species of digeneans were found, Parahemiurus merits (Linton, 1910) (adult) in the stomach; Lecithochirium microstomum Chandler, 1935 (non-ovigerous and ovigerous juveniles) in the swimbladder; Cardiocephaloides sp. (metacercaria) in the eyes and Rhipidocotyle sp. (metacercaria) in the musculature. These four species are recorded for the first time as parasites of E. anchoita.

5. Redescription of Gessyella latridopsis (Johnston et Mawson, 1945) (Nematoda: Capillariidae), a parasite of latrid fishes from the Southern Hemisphere

- The type species of the monotypic genus Gessyella Freitas, 1959, G. latridopsis (Johnston et Mawson, 1945) (Nematoda: Capillariidae), is redescribed from specimens found in the rectum of the marine fish Nemadactylus bergi Norman (Latridae, Perciformes) (a new host record) from the southwestern Atlantic Ocean off Mar del Plata, Argentina. In addition to the morphological and biometrical variability of this species, some new, previously unreported taxonomic features, such as the extent of the spination of the spicular sheath, the morphology of the spicular canal, the distal end of the spicule, the ejaculatory duct, the cloaca, the seminal vesicle, vas deferens and the testis, are described for the first time. Despite the long geographical distance of G. latridopsis records (Australia vs. Argentina), the morphology of the newly collected specimens is in agreement with the existing descriptions of G. latridopsis and both host species are closely related. Therefore, the Argentine specimens are considered to belong to this species.

6. Redescription of Ichthyofilaria argentinensis Incorvaia, 1999 (Nematoda: Philometridae) parasite of Merluccius hubbsi (Pisces: Merlucciidae) from Argentina

- Ichthyofilaria argentinensis Incorvaia, 1999 (Nematoda: Philometridae) is redescribed from type specimens and from parasites collected from the swim bladder of Argentine hakes Merluccius hubbsi Marini, 1933 caught at the Gulf of San Jorge (46°30'S, 66°30'W), Argentine Sea, in July, 1998. Sixteen out of 80 hakes (20%) were found to be parasitised by gravid females of this philometrid. After revision of both these nematodes and type material, the following differences from the original description of the species were observed: (a) cuticle with fine transverse striations, instead of smooth cuticle; (b) presence of cephalic papillae and a pair of amphids; (c) absence of swellings in the oesophagus; (d) oesophageal gland appendix very large and lobulate rather than small and vermiform, and (d) presence of vulva and vagina. The morphological features given in the redescription allow the confirmation of the identity of I. argentinensis as a valid species and to distinguish it from other members of the genus.
