We study block diagonalization of matrices induced by resolutions of the unit matrix into the sum of idempotent matrices. We show that the block diagonal matrices have disjoint spectra if and only if each idempotent matrix in the inducing resolution double commutes with the given matrix. Applications include a new characterization of an eigenprojection and of the Drazin inverse of a given matrix.
Laboratory studies were conducted to characterise the sorption-desorption behavior of four human pharmaceuticals (carbamazepine, diclofenac, gemfibrozil, and ibuprofen) at three initial concentrations in aqueous solution on one river sediment. The results of the experiments showed that distribution coefficients were either relatively low for diclofenac and ibuprofen or higher for gemfibrozil and carbamazepine. Distribution coefficients (mean Kd values for three initial concentrations), as measured by the batch experiments, were 4.21 ± 0.58 for diclofenac, 4.98 ± 0.29 for ibuprofen, 11.28 ± 1.22 for gemfibrozil, and 44.82 ± 14.89 for carbamazepine. Based on sorption data, migration potential of the pharmaceuticals in surface waters would decrease as follows: diclofenac > ibuprofen > gemfibrozil >> carbamazepine. Only 2.44 ± 1.05%, 3.67 ± 0.35% and 1.79 ± 1.17% of the initially sorbed ibuprofen, gemfibrozil and carbamazepine were desorbed during desorption period of 48 h, respectively. Diclofenac exhibited the highest desorption (15.01 ± 2.59%). Generally, the results indicate that significant amounts of the pharmaceuticals may be eliminated from surface waters via sorption by sediment and that observed low desorption would further limit their migration in surface waters. and Hlavným cieľom štúdie bol výskum sorpcie a desorpcie štyroch humánnych farmaceutík (karbamazepín, diklofenak, gemfibrozil a ibuprofén) pri troch počiatočných koncentráciách vo vodnom roztoku vo vzorke riečneho sedimentu. Výsledky experimentov ukázali, že rozdeľovacie koeficienty boli buď nižšie pre diklofenak a ibuprofén alebo zvýšené v prípade gemfibrozilu a karbamazepínu. Stanovené hodnoty rozdeľovacích koeficientov (priemerné hodnoty Kd pre všetky tri počiatočné koncentrácie) boli 4,21 ± 0,58 pre diklofenak, 4,98 ± 0,29 pre ibuprofén, 11,28 ± 1,22 pre gemfibrozil a 44,82 ± 14,89 pre karbamazepín. Podľa stanovených hodnôt Kd sa bude mobilita skúmaných farmaceutík v povrchových vodách znižovať v poradí: diklofenak > ibuprofén > gemfibrozil >> karbamazepín. Vodou desorbovateľné podiely farmaceutík zo sedimentu boli nízke, pričom len 2,44 ± 1,05%, 3,67 ± 0,35% a 1,79 ± 1,17% z celkového sorbovaného množstva ibuprofénu, gemfibrozilu a karbamazepínu v sedimente sa počas desorpčného experimentu uvoľnilo späť do vody. Diklofenak vykazoval najvyšší rozsah desorpcie zo sedimentu (15,01 ± 2,59%). Všeobecne tieto výsledky naznačujú, že značné množstvá sledovaných farmaceutík môžu byť odstránené z povrchových vôd prostredníctvom sorpcie v sedimente a že pozorovaný nízky rozsah desorpcie bude ešte viac obmedzovať ich mobilitu v povrchových vodách.
Typical chestnut thylakoid extracts isolated by mechanical disruption of leaf tissues had an equivalent of 0.28 kg m-3 chlorophyll (Chl) which is six times less than in thylakoids obtained from spinach, although Chl content in leaves was only half as small. According to optical microscopy, the vesicles showed a good integrity, exhibiting at 21 °C a high capacity of photon-induced potential membrane generation, which was demonstrated by the almost full 9-amino-6-chloro-2-methoxyacridine fluorescence quenching in a hyper-saline medium containing 150 mM KCl and having osmotic potential of -1.5 MPa. The half-time of the thylakoid potential generation was 11.7 s with the time of dissipation around 8.9 s. In such conditions, spinach thylakoids showed an increased swelling and also differences in the half-time generation which was almost four times faster than was observed in chestnut. However, when spinach thylakoids were incubated in a typical hypo-saline medium without KCl with osmotic potential -0.8 MPa, no additional swelling was observed. Consequently the half-time of potential dissipation was 35 s. Studies with nigericin suggested a chestnut thylakoid ΔpH significantly smaller than that observed in spinach, which was confirmed by the measurements of the ATP driven pumping activity. and J. In continuous casting the quality of cast steel slabs and billets, thermal stress, surface defects and cracks formation are highly dependent on the temperature distribution along the entire continuously cast blank. The main attention is usually paid to the surface temperatures and particularly to the corner temperature distributions. However, from the technological point of view the temperature distribution in the core of cast blank, which is highly related to the metallurgical length and to the unbending process, is very important as well. Therefore, monitoring of temperature field of cast blanks, its prediction by using numerical models as well as controlling and optimization tasks of secondary cooling strategy are priority issues for technologists, quality engineers, and operators of continuous casting machine. The paper is aimed at the thermal analysis and the investigation of temperature field of cast billets by utilizing the original numerical model of temperature field of continuously cast steel billets. In particular three grades of steel with different carbon content and the 200x200 mm billets, which are cast in Železiarne Podbrezová in Slovakia, are considered.
