1. A new species of Litomosoides (Nematoda: Onchocercidae), parasite of Nectomys palmipes (Rodentia: Cricetidae: Sigmodontinae) from Venezuela: description, molecular evidence, Wolbachia pipientis screening

The onchocercid filaria Litomosoides taylori sp. n. is described from the sigmodontine cricetid Nectomys palmipes Allen et Chapman in northeast Venezuela. A voucher specimen of the new species was used for molecular analysis of the coxI and 12S rDNA genes, and screened for the presence of the endobacterium Wolbachia pipientis. Litomosoides taylori belongs to the ''sigmodontis group'' of Litomosoides and a combination of characters can be used to distinguish it from the remaining 18 species forming this group. Among the five Nectomys species, all living near running water, N. squamipes also harbours Litomosoides species, L. khonae in Brazil and L. navonae in Argentina. These three Litomosoides species of the ''sigmodontis group'' do not share any particular characters. Gene sequences of L. taylori differ from those of the five Litomosoides species available, the three of the ''carinii group'' being the most distant. The new species harbours W. pipientis, which is concurrent with the great majority of Litomosoides species screened to date.

3. Evolution of open clusters as N-body systems

Realistic N-body simulations of open clusters are discussed and compared with main observed cluster features. Most of the models have 1000 bodies with initial masses following a power law mass function of slope α = -2.75. Instantaneous mass loss from stellar evolution; a smooth linearized galactic tidal field and transient shocks by encounters with extended interstellar clouds of different mass-spectrum, density and space concentration are included. Close approaches between particles are treated by a two-body regularization technique that allows to follow binary evolution in detail. Good agreement is found between the distribution of lifetime for galactic clusters and the life of the models. It is found that the combined action of evolutionary mass loss and binaries (for 1000 star clusters with a realistic mass function) is enough to arrest the core collapse. Tidal heating shapes the halo of the cluster and produces a distinctive density and velocity distribution. Encounters with standard clouds do not alter the life-time of the clusters; while giant molecular clouds produce a catastrophic disruption. Mass segregation and preferential escape of light stars can account for the depletion of low luminosity stars in the better observed central region of clusters. Work on the primordial stages of evolution of clusters during star formation is reviewed, and linked to work on N-body clusters.

This paper investigates relation between modal and future meanings of the Old Church Slavonic infinitival constructions with iměti and xotěti. The future tense and expression of hypothetical values are closely interconnected. Utterances, referring to an obligation, permission, prohibition (or possibility and necessity as the case may be) to materialize an action, are always directed towards the future, they are alvays open forwards with the stream of time. The construction of the verb iměti with infinitive includes a semantic component of fatal necessity, predetermination, which is closely connected with the meaning of obligation. the meaning of predestination (i. e., theodeontic necessity) may imply, in certain contexts, a forecast, prediction and, consequently, reference with respect to the future. The expression of will, but also of desire, intention and purpose, are the initial functions of the verb xotěti. The prediction usage of wish and intention also represents the usual way towards the future.
