It has become increasingly apparent in recent years that there are important differences of many cardiovascular disorders including ventricular tachycardias in men and women. Nevertheless, so far just few studies have addressed possible gender differences in electrophysiological characteristics of idiopathic ventricular tachycardia from right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT-VT), other than epidemiological ones. This study explored possible gender differences in electrophysiological characteristics and catheter ablation outcome in RVOT-VT patients. Ninety-three patients (mean age 38.7±15.5 years, 30 males) with idiopathic RVOT-VT were enrolled and analyzed in our study. Male patients had longer QRS width (99.9±19.4 ms vs. 88.4±20.7 ms, p=0.02). Female patients had lower right ventricular mean voltage (3.0±0.7 mV vs. 3.7±0.9 mV, p=0.03), and more low voltage zone over the right ventricular outflow tract free wall (27.0 % vs. 6.7 %, p=0.02). Eighty-one patients passed catheter ablation (23 males). The acute success rate, repeated catheter ablation rate and VT recurrence rate were similar in both genders. The present study provides evidence of the gender differences in electrophysiological findings in patients with idiopathic RVOT-VT. Studies on gender-specific differences in arrhythmia could lead to a better understanding of its mechanism(s) and provide valuable information for the development of optimal treatment strategies., S.-G. As with other organ transplants even lung transplantation raises
the question of the possibility of the influence of gender on ischemia
-reperfusion injury. This is a current topic especially for increasingly utilized method of lung transplantation from non-heart-beating donors, where reperfusion preceded by a period of warm and cold ischemia with subsequent treatment options for lung graft reperfusion. For measurements we used our laboratory previously created and validated animal model for ex vivo lung transplantation. As with other organ systems of our monitoring resulted protective effect of female sex on ischemia reperfusion lung injury. In two of the three parameters that were monitored, we found a significant difference. In females, higher oxygen transfer ability after reperfusion was manifested as well as lower
perfusion pressure (vascular compliance). Conversely, weight gain (the development of pulmonary edema) in males was not significant difference from the females. These conclusions could cause further studies leading to influence the selection of appropriate donor grafts.
Increased generation of reactive oxygen species results in the formation of fluorescent end-products of lipid peroxidation – lipofuscin-like pigments (LFP). LFP increased up to six-fold from the fetal value in the rat heart immediately after birth. In the experimental design of this study the fetuses were sampled 1 day before birth, and then the samples were collected on postnatal days 1, 4, 7, 10, 15, 30, and 60. Males and females were compared on day 30 and 60 when the difference between right and left ventricle was studied as well. Four LFP fluorophores were analyzed: F355/440, F310/470, F350/450, F315/450 (excitation/emission, nm). All fluorophores decreased on day 4 relative to day 1, subsequent transient increases ended in a significant decrease on day 60. However, the LFP levels on day 60 are still about threefold higher than those in fetuses. Differences between male and female hearts were observed on day 30. The corresponding male ventricles contained by one third higher concentration of LFP than the female counterparts. The increase in LFP concentration in male ventricles on day 30 was only transient, no difference between corresponding male and female ventricles was found on day 60. The most distinguished feature in the male heart was a sharp LFP decrease in the right ventricle on day 60., J. Wilhelm, I. Ošťádalová., and Obsahuje seznam literatury
