V průběhu dílčího výzkumu brány A na keltském oppidu Závist byla při jejím severovýchodním křídle objevena jáma s deponovanou lidskou lebkou (datována do mladšího úseku stupně LT D1; tj. kolem poloviny 1. století př. Kr.). Nález byl interpretován jako lidská trofej „tête coupée“, původně patrně umístěná na bráně. Po přenesení do jámy byla lebka zatížena velkým kamenem a zasypána zeminou z blízkého destruovaného obytného stavení. Jde o lebku jedince nejspíše mužského pohlaví, mladého dospělého věku. Na lebce jsou patrné impresivní fraktury v levé polovině kosti čelní; pomocí endoskopického vyšetření byla pod nimi na vnitřní ploše čelní kosti zjištěna lese, vzniklá nejspíše vylomením lamina interna s následným epidurálním krvácením. Nález vykazuje četné shody s poznatky paleopatologického vyšetření souboru lidských lebek z oppida Manching. Části z nich se připisuje význam trofejí nebo relikvií. Zaznamenané doklady svědčí pro následky soubojů individuálních soupeřů. Zjištěný posttraumatický stav v tomto případě potvrzuje, že dekapitace nepředstavovala sám akt či způsob usmrcení, nýbrž gesto odnětí hlavy jako trofeje nebo relikvie teprve od zemřelého těla. and In the course of excavations at the gate A of Závist Celtic oppidum, a pit was found located at the north-eastern wing of the gate with deposited human cranium (dated to the younger part of LT D1 phase; at about mid–1st century BC). The finding was interpreted as a human trophy “tête coupée” which could be primarily shown off on the gate. After transfer into the pit the skull had been covered with a large stone and buried with the earth coming from near–by demolished dwelling–house. The skull belonged to an young adult individual, most probably of the male gender. Impressive fractures are visible on the left part of frontal bone; under them, on the internal surface of frontal bone, a lesion was observed by endoscopic examination which could be probably due to breaking out the internal lamina with subsequent epidural hemorrhage. Many conformities are found between this finding and the findings resulting from the palaeopathologic examination in collection of human skulls from Manching oppidum, to a part of which the meaning of trophies or relics was assigned. Recorded documents give evidence for considering them to be due to duels between individual rivals. The post–traumatic state observed in the our case may suggest that decapitation did not represent the mode of killing but rather the gesture of taking the head off the already dead body as a trophy or relic.
