This analysis focuses mainly on the relationship between "fiction" and "reality/history", which is one of the fundamental questions of the historical novel per se. How do Turkish authors tread the thin line dividing these two worlds? How do they (de)construct history within literary modes? And what trends can be identified in contemporary Turkish historical fiction? This article, based on a masters thesis, analyses the historical novels written by A. Altan, Z. Livaneli, G. Korat, N, Gürsel, O. Pamuk and I. O. Anar representing both "mainstreams".
