The vibrodiagnostic system VDS-UT2 was developed for the investigation of a tram wheel operational vibration and deformation. The system consists of measuring, acquisition and processing tools for monitoring of tram wheels and their operational parameters, e.g. static and dynamic deformation, displacement, velocity, acceleration and temperature. The measuring on a rotating wheel is realized both by telemetric and by top-timing system. Measured data can be remote-observed via Internet connection with the control PC. The acquisition system by Starmans Electronics s.r.o. provides continuous analog and digital data logging. The control PC processes digital logical signals and evaluates time intervals representing circumferential turning angles between disk and rim.. In the contribution, the diagnostic system is described and the measured data including damage analysis are presented. and Obsahuje seznam literatury
Among white bream, Abramis bjoerkna from Lake Kortowskie in North-Eastern Poland, some females showed characteristics of defined fertility while some females in the period of vitellogenesis of the first and second batch of oocytes showed characteristics of undefined fertility. Some females representing defined fertility showed characteristics of single spawning during the reproduction season. The other females with both defined and undefined fertility showed characteristics of batch spawning reproduction type. The results showed that female white bream were characterized by diversified vitellogenetic activity. They showed linkages to both the reproduction type with single spawning during the reproductive season and the type of reproduction with batch spawning related to undefined fertility.
It was confirmed that the main source of energy for growth and development in the neonatal period was fat. Considerable attention was paid to the development of both white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT) in the rat and human newborn. Cholesterol metabolism during development was studied in the liver, the small intestine and both WAT and BAT. Brown adipose tissue of rats and adipose tissue from human newborns require carnitine for optimum respiration and fatty acid oxidation. Surprisingly, carnitine enhanced lipolysis in human newborn adipose tissue, Intravenously-fed newborn patients exhibited a rapid decrease of plasma level of carnitine and its esters, indicating a greater requirement for exogenous carnitine than in adult subjects (52 references)
The aim of the study was to assess the impact of preweaning overnutrition upon the ontogeny of intestinal microbiota, alkaline phosphatase activity (AP) and pa rameters of growth and obesity in male Sprague-Dawley rats. We tested whether intestinal characteristics acquired in suckling pups could programme the development of enhanced fat deposition during normalized nutrition beyond weaning. Postnatal nutrition was manipulated by adjusting the number of pups in the nest to 4 (small litters - SL) and 10 (normal litters - NL). In the postweaning period both groups were fed with a standard diet. The jejunal and colonic Lactobacillus/Enterococcus (LAB) and the Bacteroides/Prevotella (BAC) were determined using the FISH technique, and the jejunal AP activity was assayed histochemically. At 15 and 20 days of age the SL pups became heavier, displayed increased adiposity accompanied by significantly higher LAB and lower numbers of BAC and with higher AP activity in comparison with rats nursed in NL nests. These differences pers isted to day 40 and withdrawal of the previous causal dietary influence did not prevent the post-weaning fat accretion. These results reveal the significance of early nutritional imprint upon the gut microbial/functional development and allow better unde rstanding of their involvement in the control of obesity., Z. A radiochemical assay (RCA) has been used for the measurement of juvenile hormone (JH) synthesis in vitro by corpora allata (CA) from the Eri silkworm, Samia cynthia ricini. Using CA from newly emerged female adults for the bioassay, the most suitable incubation conditions were determined. A high rate of JH synthesis was found in medium TC199 at pH 6.5, 30°C and 4 mM Ca2+. The time course of JH synthesis showed a steady decrease during the first 6 hours of incubation.
Under optimal incubation conditions, CA from the 4th and 5th larval instars, pupae and adults were used for measuring JH synthesis in vitro. The highest rates of JH synthesis were found on the 1st day of both larval stages, and then JH synthesis decreased steadily during the following two days of each instar. From the 4th day of the 5th larval instar to the 2nd day after pupation, CA could still synthesize small amounts of JH. However, from the 3rd day of the pupal stage to 12 hours before adult emergence, no JH release was observed. About 6 hours before emergence, CA of both female and male pharate adults regained the ability to synthesize JH. JH synthesis increased to a maximum shortly after emergence and then decreased again during the following two days. During this period, JH synthesis in vitro by CA from females was always higher than that of males. This is the first report on JH synthesis in vitro by CA from both female and male pharate adults and adults of a lepidopteran species, where the adults do not feed, are relatively short-lived, mate only once, and ovarian maturation and vitellogenesis are completed before emergence.
Activity of cytochrome c oxidase and citrate synthase in rat heart homogenates was determined in 5-, 15-, 28- and 60-day-old rats. The activity of both enzymes increased during postnatal development but their changes followed different kinetics. The membrane-bound cytochrome c oxidase reached its adult values during the early postnatal period, i.e. between days 5 and 15, whereas soluble matrix-localized citrate synthase also continued to increase between days 15 and 60. Our data indicate a relative excess of cytochrome c oxidase in neonatal cardiocytes.
The erythrocytes represent an important source of antioxidant capacity of the blood. Catalase (EC 1.11.1.6.) is one of the enzymatic components of their antioxidant defense system. The objective of this study was to follow erythrocyte catalase (CAT) in 7-, 15-, 21-, 35-, 60- and 90-day-old Wistar rats of both sexes in normoxia and after exposure to intensive acute hypobaric hypoxia. During the development CAT activity increases in both sexes, but the rise was usually higher in females. Hypobaric hypoxia increased CAT activity in all studied age groups of both sexes. However, higher CAT activity in females was less affected by hypoxia than the lower activity in males. This was true for nearly all age groups studied. It can be concluded that both ontogenetic aspects and sex differences play a major role in establishing the activity of CAT, which is an important part of the antioxidant defense of the organism.
Opening of the mitochondrial membrane permeability transition pore (MPTP) is an important factor in the activation of apoptotic and necrotic processes in mammalian cells. In a previous paper we have shown that cardiac mitochondria from neonatal rats are more resistant to calcium load than mitochondria from adult animals. In this study we have analyzed the ontogenetic development of this parameter both in heart and in liver mitochondria. We found that the high resistance of heart mitochondria decreases from day 14 to adulthood. On the other hand, we did not observe a similar age-dependent sensitivity in liver mitochondria, particularly in the neonatal period. Some significant but relatively smaller increase could be observed only after day 30. When compared with liver mitochondria cardiac mitochondria were more resistant also to the peroxide activating effect on calcium-induced mitochondrial swelling. These data thus indicate that the MPTP of heart mitochondria is better protected against damaging effects of the calcium load and oxidative stress. We can only speculate that the lower sensitivity to calcium-induced swelling may be related to the higher ischemic tolerance of the neonatal heart., Z. Drahota, ... Threshold intensities for elicitation of movements and of epileptic afterdischarges by rhythmic stimulation of the sensorimotor cortex were estimated in 90 rats with implanted electrodes. Four age groups were studied - animals 12, 18, 25 and 90 days old. Both thresholds exhibited significantly higher values for adult animals in comparison with all groups of young pups. Whereas no differences were found among the rat pups in thresholds for movements accompanying stimulation, epileptic afterdischarges demonstrated a lower threshold in 18-day- old in comparison with 25-day-old animals. The development of cortical excitability is rather complicated and deserves further studies.
Lepeophtheirus simplex Ho, Gómez et Fajer-Avila, 2001 is a parasite of Sphoeroides annulatus (Jenyns), an economically important fish species, with potential for aquaculture, in northwestern Mexico. The goal of this study was to describe the developmental stages under experimental conditions and seasonal fecundity of this parasite on wild fish. There are two naupliar, one copepodid, two chalimus and two pre-adult stages preceding the adult of L. simplex. The results support previous findings, which point out that the life cycle of the caligid copepods includes only six post-naupliar stages. The generation time from egg extrusion to adult for L. simplex was approximately 10 days at 22 °C. The body length of the ovigerous females ranged between 2.2 and 4.1 mm, and its fecundity between 12 and 36 eggs per string. Fecundity was negatively correlated with the egg size and positively correlated with the egg string length. Our data did not reveal significant differences in fecundity among sampling months, but ovigerous females were significantly larger in March (when water temperature was 22 °C) than in June and July (when water temperature was 30 °C). To some extent, our fecundity results contrast with those found in species of sea lice from higher latitudes. Undoubtedly, biological information on different species of sea lice from different environmental conditions will enhance our understanding of their infection strategies and will be valuable, given the increasing interest in marine fish farming in Mexico., Francisco Neptalí Morales-Serna, Ana Inés Rivas-Salas, Samuel Gómez, Emma Josefina Fajer-Ávila., and Obsahuje bibliografii
