Rozvoj oblasti eHealth představuje kromě zřetelných společenských a ekonomických přínosů také významnou příležitost pro dodavatele informačních a komunikačních technologií. Jejich úspěšné uplatnění se v rostoucí konkurenci na rozvíjejícím se evropském trhu eHealth však předpokládá cíleně orientovaný vývoj zaměřený na potřeby uživatelů - zdravotníků, pacientů i systémových institucí z oblasti zdravotnictví. Ve snaze zmapovat tuto příležitost připravilo Technologické centrum AV ČR studii, jejímž cílem je srovnat možnosti výzkumu a vývoje v oboru ICT v ČR s potřebami aplikační sféry a přinést tak informace, které přispějí k efektivnímu řízení výzkumu a vývoje v oblasti eHealth jak na úrovni řídicí sféry, tak na úrovni jednotlivých výzkumných a vývojových institucí a podniků.V rámci studie bylo provedeno terénní šetření, které proběhlo formou řízených rozhovorů s vybranými zástupci uživatelů a dodavatelů. Studie byla realizována ve druhé polovině roku 2007 v rámci výzkumného záměru Strategické studie pro výzkum a vývoj., Further development in the eHealth area means beside the straightforward social and economical benefits also a significant opportunity for suppliers of information and communication technologies. Nevertheless, their success in the increasing competition on the evolving European market demands the target-oriented development focused to the needs of users - medics, patients and health care system institutions. With the effort to map this opportunity Technology Centre AS CR prepared the study, which goal is to compare the R&D possibilities in the ICT area in the Czech Republic with the needs of the application domain and to provide information useful for effective eHealth R&D management at the system level as well as at the level of particular R&D institutions and enterprises.
