This contribution deals with the manuscripts of the Wrocław University Library, in which works by the English reformer John Wyclif († 1384) are recorded. It shows that besides one known manuscript dating from the second half of the 15th century, Sg. IV F 7, and containing the work De universalibus, there are two copies of Wyclifˇs letter to the pope Urban VI (in the manuscripts dating from the first half of the 15th century, Sg. I F 594 and I F 707), and that in the former of the manuscripts mentioned a text dealing with the preparation for taking the Eucharist is recorded too, which otherwise survives in two Viennese manuscripts and is an item of the list of Wyclif´s works regarded as dubium. Moreover, the article mentions two Wyclifi an spuria (Sg. I F 733 and I F 570). All these copies came into being as marginalia of the reception of Wyclif´s work in Bohemia.
Neoechinorhynchus (Neoechinorhynchus) zabensis sp. n. (Acanthocephala: Neoechinorhynchidae) is described from Capoeta damascina (Valenciennes, 1842) (type host) and Capoeta trutta (Heckel, 1843) in the Greater and Lesser Zab Rivers, northern Iraq. The new species is unique among all other species of the genus by its characteristic paired para-vaginal muscular appendage and fragmented giant nuclei in the lemnisci. Eleven of the other 88 valid species of Neoechinorhynchus and N. zabensis have middle and posterior hooks of equal length. However, N. zabensis is distinguished from the others by size of trunk, proboscis, proboscis hooks and lemnisci, number of giant nuclei, position of female gonopore, and geographical and host distribution. It is also distinguished from six other species of Neoechinorhynchus previously reported from Iraq. Other distinguishing features are also included.
Adverse effect of caffeine consumption has been well documented in animals and in human beings. However, here we studied the influence of caffeine exposure on seedling growth of Arabidopsis and tobacco plants. Retardation in the seedling growth of these plants was observed when grown on MS medium plates containing 1 mM caffeine and their growth retarded further upon increasing the concentration of caffeine to 5 mM. Retardation in seedling size including both root and shoot size, yellowing and decrease in chlorophyll content of seedlings upon caffeine treatment indicated that caffeine exposure induced early senescence in plants. Therefore, the influence of caffeine exposure on transcript expression and activity of Rubisco in tobacco and Arabidopsis seedlings was monitored. Caffeine exposure has been found to decrease the expression and activity of Rubisco in both the plants. Hence, this study documents that caffeine exposure retarded seedling growth and one reason for this could be its negative effect on Rubisco. and P. Mohanpuria, S. K. Yadav.
