The Neolithic and Late Bronze Age settlement at Stod (Plzeň–South district) lies on what was probably¨an important point on the route from the Plzeň (Pilsen) region to the Bavarian territory around the Radbuz. In the case of the Neolithic settlement this was one of a series of settlements in the vicinity, while the Late Bronze Age settlement provides evidence for the existence of another of the few lowland settlements of the period in West Bohemia. Basic information about the settlements (minimum area, dating, details of structure, cultural influences) were provided by excavations undertaken on the basis of the construction of a services network. The excavation was another step towards and understanding of the prehistoric settlement not only of the narrow area, where there was settlement activity in several prehistoric periods, but also of the area along the Radbuz, which is important to Western Bohemia as a whole. The small area opened yielded a large quantity of material and interesting discoveries relating to, for example, structures and the archaeologisation process, but did not always permit of straightforward interpretation.
