Na katastru obce Brandýsek, okr. Kladno, bylo v letech 1955–1958 prozkoumáno polykulturní pohřebiště. Jsou zde zastoupeny hroby ze starého a mladšího eneolitu, doby římské a raného středověku. Neobvyklé uspořádání hrobů nejmladší fáze (9.–10. století) s prázdným místem v centrální části bylo interpretováno jako doklad existence dřevěného kostela. Nový pokus o vysvětlení nálezové situace, prezentovaný v tomto článku, přistupuje k lokalitě jako k součásti kulturní krajiny s dlouhodobým vývojem. Na základě prostorových vlastností hrobů všech chronologických fází je zde testována možnost záměrného využití pravěkého pohřebního areálu v období raného středověku a jsou hledány příčiny absence hrobů z nejmladší fáze pohřbívání uprostřed areálu. Závěrečná část článku zasazuje popsaný jev do kontextu mentality raně středověké Evropy, kde hrály velkou roli symboly odkazující na minulost. and Between 1955 and 1958 a polycultural cemetery was excavated in the Brandýsek cadastre of Kladno district. The graves within came from the early and later Eneolithic, the Roman Period and the Early Middle Ages. The unusual disposition of the latest phase (9th – 10th centuries AD), with an empty space in its central part, was interpreted as evidence of the existence of a wooden church. A new attempt to explain the finds situation, presented in this article, sees the site as part of a cultural landscape with a long–term development. On the basis of the spatial characteristics of the graves from all of the chronological phases, the possibility is tested that of the deliberate use of a prehistoric burial area in the Early Middle Ages. A search is conducted for the causes of the absence of graves from the latest phases of burial in the centre of the area. The closing part of the article puts the phenomenon described into the context of the mentality of Early Medieval Europe, in which symbols inherited from the past played a great role.
