- Description:
- This paper contributes to Contradictions’ “Conceptual Dictionary” by exploring the history, theory, and practical implications of the notion of “ecosocialism”. The first part of the text follows the historical and ideological development of ecosocialism and examines its broad and diverse anarchist, feminist, and Marxist roots. This part of the text also introduces key authors of ecosocialism and their work. The subsequent part identifies critical ideas and offers a theoretical overview of scholarly and political debates about the relationship between ecosocialism and other environmental and socio-critical approaches. Finally, the text further explores the practical and political vision of the concept and reflects on the future of ecosocialist strategy.

- Description:
- The aim of ťhis study was to clarify whether there are generál differences between the woody and herbaceous plants in their responses to a single non-lethal freezing stress, when measured under comparable conditions. Activity of net photosynthesis (^N33)» th® curves of versus photosynthetic photon fluence density and versus intercellular partial pressure of CO2, and ratio of variable to maximal fluorescence (F^Fm) were measured at optimal temperatures in the leaves of six woody and six herbaceous plant species prior to frost-hardening, after frost-hardening at low positive temperatures and after a single over-night freezing stress (-10 ®C, 12 h) of the shoots. Recovery of at 20/15 “C was also followed. There were no generál differences between woody and herbaceous plants in their photosynthetic responses to freezing stress. In most plants, Pn33 was strongly reduced after freezing mainly due to the disturbances in fimctioning of the chloroplasts, but it recovered within a few days. However, of some herbaceous plants (Cochlearia, one cultivar of spinách) was insensitive to non-lethal freezing. Furthermore, stomatal opening of a few herbaceous plants (Cochlearia, Valerianella) was disturbed after freezing without any sign of an impairment in fimctioning of the chloroplasts.

- Description:
- Transcription factors exert their regulatory potential on RNA polymerase II machinery through a multiprotein complex called Mediator complex or Mediator. The Mediator complex integrates regulatory signals from cell regulatory cascades with the regulation by transcription factors. The Mediator complex consists of 25 subunits in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and 30 or more subunits in multicellular eukaryotes. Mediator subunit 28 (MED28), along with MED30, MED23, MED25 and MED26, belong to presumably evolutionarily new subunits that seem to be absent in unicellular eukaryotes and are likely to have evolved together with multicellularity and cell differentiation. Previously, we have shown that an originally uncharacterized predicted gene, F28F8.5, is the true MED28 orthologue in Caenorhabditis elegans (mdt-28) and showed that it is involved in a spectrum of developmental processes. Here, we studied the proteomic interactome of MDT-28 edited as GFP::MDT-28 using Crispr/Cas9 technology or MDT-28::GFP expressed from extrachromosomal arrays in transgenic C. elegans exploiting the GFPTRAP system and mass spectrometry. The results show that MDT-28 associates with the Head module subunits MDT-6, MDT-8, MDT-11, MDT-17, MDT20, MDT-22, and MDT-30 and the Middle module subunit MDT-14. The analyses also identified additional proteins as preferential MDT-28 interactants, including chromatin-organizing proteins, structural proteins and enzymes. The results provide evidence for MDT-28 engagement in the Mediator Head module and support the possibility of physical (direct or indirect) interaction of MDT-28 with additional proteins, reflecting the transcription-regulating potential of primarily structural and enzymatic proteins at the level of the Mediator complex.

- Description:
Článek pojednává o vztahu mezi chemií mezikrystalových oblastí - hranic zrn - a jejich soudružností a o tom, jakou stopu v této oblasti zanechali čeští vědci., Metals and their alloys belong to the basic construction materials used in technology and building. Although their properties are very well-known, there is always a danger that a sudden collapse occurs in metallic constructions, or in their parts, as a result of intergranular embrittlement. Such an embrittlement may be caused by a progressive change in chemical composition in the regions between individual crystals, i.e. grain boundaries. Many specialists, including Czechs, are engaged in finding a solution for this issue. This article deals with the relationship between the chemistry of grain boundaries and their cohesion, and demonstrates the footprint bequeathed by Czech scientists., Pavel Lejček, Mojmír Šob, Václav Paidar., and Obsahuje seznam literatury
