- Description:
- Two new species of chigger mites, Hyponeocula monocoxalae sp. n. from bats and reptiles, and Perates nudosetosus sp. n. from bats, are described. The first finding of larvae of Tectumpilosum negreai Feider, 1983 in nature is reported from a bat collected at the type locality, and the description of this species is emended. Four species, Perates monops (Brennan et Jones, 1960), Parasecia manueli (Brennan et Jones, 1960), Beamerella acutascuta Brennan, 1958, and Blankaartia sinnamaryi (Floch et Fauran, 1956), are recorded for the first time in Cuba and on new host species.

- Type:

- Subject:
- rock damage, energy dissipation, cyclic loading, post-peak behaviour, and confining pressure
- Language:
- English
- Description:
- The stability of underground openings concerns the safety of field personnel and engineering facilities in tunnelling and underground mining. The pre- and post-peak damage characteristics of sandstone subjected to triaxial cyclic loading were experimentally studied. The results show that the maximum dissipated energy occurs after the peak stress. The maximum of energy dissipation ratio K and the stress ratio at the K peak point increased with the confining pressure. To estimate the damage characteristics of rock material, the damage variable D was defined based on rock dissipated energy. It is found that the confining pressure has a negligible influence on the damage variable D rate in the pre-peak stage. However, it increased at a lower rate with the increase of confining pressure in the post-peak stage. It is found that the proposed rock damage variable associated with dissipated energy and confining pressure, is a significant indicator of the overall loss of load-carrying capacity of rock in pre-peak and post-peak stages.

5. Generalized Lebesgue points for Sobolev functions

- Type:

- Subject:
- matematika, mathematics, metrický prostor měření, medián, Lebesgueův bod, Sobolev space, metric measure space, median, generalized Lebesgue point, 13, and 51
- Language:
- English
- Description:
- In many recent articles, medians have been used as a replacement of integral averages when the function fails to be locally integrable. A point x in a metric measure space (X,d,μ) is called a generalized Lebesgue point of a measurable function f if the medians of f over the balls B(x,r) converge to f(x) when r converges to 0. We know that almost every point of a measurable, almost everywhere finite function is a generalized Lebesgue point and the same is true for every point of a continuous function. We show that a function f\in M{s,p}(X),0<s<1,0<p<1, where X is a doubling metric measure space, has generalized Lebesgue points outside a set of Hh-Hausdorff measure zero for a suitable gauge function h., Nijjwal Karak., and Obsahuje bibliografii

6. Net photosynthesis, growth rate and biomass allocation in a rhizomatous grass Calamagrostis epigejos grown at elevated CO2 concentration
- Creator:
- Gloser, J. and Barták, M.
- Format:
- Type:
- model:internalpart and TEXT
- Language:
- Multiple languages
- Description:
- Young plants of Calamagrostis epigejos (L.) Roth were grown in controlled environments with two regimes of CO2 in the air: normál (350 cm^ m'^) and elevated (700 cm^ m‘3). The relative growth rate of plants grown at elevated CO2 was increased by about 20 % in comparison with control plants cultivated at ambient CO2 concentration. Partitioning of assimilates into roots (+ rhizomes) and shoots was the same in both treatments. Slightly lower values of specifíc leaf area, leaf mass ratio and leaf area ratio were found in the plants grown at elevated CO2. The net photosynthetic rate (P^) was measured gasometrically in plants from both treatments at 350 and 700 cm^ m"^ CO2 in the leaf chamber. There were no signifícant differences between plants grown at either CO2 concentration in their responses to radiation and CO2 conditions during measurements, i.e., no regulation of photosynthetic processes in response to elevated CO2 was detectable. at saturating irradiance and maximum apparent quantum yield of photosynthesis were always considerably higher at doubled CO2 concentration during measurements.

7. Photosynthetic pathway and morphological functional types in the steppe vegetation from Inner Mongolia, North China
- Creator:

- Type:
- model:article and TEXT
- Subject:
- annual and perenial plants, C3, C4, and CAM photosynthesis, dry und wet soils, forbs, grasses, and land cultivation
- Language:
- Multiple languages
- Description:
- Photosynthetic pathway (C3, C4, and CAM) and morphological functional types were identified for the forage species from steppe vegetation in Inner Mongolia, China, using the data from both field survey and references. Of the total 136 identified vascular species, in 29 families and 89 genera, 78 % were found with C3 photosynthesis, including dominant herbs, e.g. Stipa grandis P. Smirn., S. krylovii Roshev., and Leymus chinensis (Trin.) Tzvel. These C3 species covered about 90 % of the total herbage production in the steppe. 20 % were found with C4 photosynthesis and 2 % with CAM photosynthesis. Photosynthetic pathway functional types were coarse and may not fit for the studies and land management in small scales, because of the high C3 photosynthesis composition and the few families in which C4 species occur. Morphological functional types (e.g. shrubs, high perennial grasses, short perennial graminaceous plants, annual grasses, annual forbs, perennial forbs, and succulents) may be practical for spatial and temporal descriptions of steppe ecosystems in local and region scales. Classification for plant functional types, especially morphological types, may contribute to studying the links between plant species and communities, ecosystems, and global changes, and for steppe management decisions in the region.

- Subject:
- parasite, manipulation, personality, blood group, Rh factor, Cattell 16PF, Cloninger TCI, Rhesus factor, aging, and senescence
- Language:
- English
- Description:
- Toxoplasma gondii, a parasite infecting 20-60% of humans in various countries, influences the behaviour of infected animal and human hosts. Infected human subjects have changes in several of Cattell's and Cloninger's personality factors. Recently, three independent studies have shown that Rh-positive subjects are protected against the T. gondii-induced changes of reaction times and increased risk of traffic accidents. Here we searched for evidence of similar effects of RhD phenotype on toxoplasmosis- or aging-associated changes in the personality profile of about 302 blood donors. We found that Rh-positive and Rh-negative subjects responded differently to toxoplasmosis. In addition to the already known effects of toxoplasmosis on novelty seeking, self transcendence, superego strength and protension, we also found effects of RhD phenotype on ego strength, protension, and praxernia, as well as opposite effects of toxoplasmosis on ego strength, praxernia, ergic tension and cooperativeness in Rh-positive and Rh-negative subjects. Moreover, our results indicate that RhD phenotype might influence not only the effect of toxoplasmosis but also the effect of aging on specific personality traits.
