Stoupající frekvence výskytu myomů a jiných pánevních patologií mezi ženami plánujícími koncepci činí problematiku myomů a reprodukčních poruch vysoce aktuálním tématem. Hlavní roli v diagnostice myomů hraje ultrasonografie, především vaginální. Pro diagnostiku submukózně uložených myomů lze využít hysterosonografii, nebo hysteroskopii jako diagnostickou a zároveň léčebnou modalitu. Výběrově lze pak doplnit vyšetření výpočetní tomografií (computer tomography – CT) nebo vyšetření zobrazením magnetickou rezonancí (magnetic resonance imaging – MRI). Specifickým problémem je vztah myomů k ženské (ne)plodnosti. Je známo, že se myomy vyskytují u 1–4 % všech donošených gravidit a že řada žen s myomy není sterilních.
