- Description:
- Comparative analysis revealed that a xantha rice mutant (cv. Huangyu B) had higher ratios of chlorophyll (Chl) a/b and carotenoids/Chl, and higher photosynthetic efficiency than its wild type parent (cv. II32 B). Unexpectedly, the mutant had higher net photosynthetic rate (PN) than II32 B. This might have resulted from its lower non-photochemical quenching (qN) but higher maximal photochemical efficiency (FV/FM), higher excitation energy capture efficiency of photosystem 2 (PS2) reaction centres (FV'/FM'), higher photochemical quenching (qP), higher effective PS2 quantum yield (ΦPS2), and higher non-cyclic electron transport rate (ETR). This is the first report of a chlorophyll mutant that has higher photosynthetic efficiency and main Chl fluorescence parameters than its wild type. This mutant could become a unique material both for the basic research on photosynthesis and for the development of high yielding rice cultivars. and X.-S. Zhou ... [et al.].

- Description:
- In this article we present laser diode based tool for optical manipulation with microobjects. This tool is very suitable for micromanipulations with large spectrum of speciments in the diameter range 0.5 - 30 μm. Adapter is directly mounted to the microscope without any aditional improvements and fits to many comercially available microscopes. Key feature of this adapter is compactness, usability and simple handling. With this adapter user takes advantage of wide spectrum of comercially available laser diodes with different wavelengths. For this reason the tool can be used in many areas such as biology, medicine and measurements.

- Description:
- The discovery of the ruby laser by Theodore Maiman in Malibu, CA on 16 May 1960, triggered extensive work around the world to make lasers. In the former Czechoslovakia, the first laser was successfully designed, built and operated at the Institute of Physics of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in Prague. Karel Pátek (5. 5. 1927 - 25. 11. 1967), a distinguished research scientist working at the Department of Luminescence of the Institute, registered 1.06-μm laser action in an optically-pumped Nd:glass rod on 9 April 1963. Pátek's group studied a variety of different Nd3+ doped glasses using a number of experimental and theoretical techniques and, together with Jaroslav Pantoflíček at Charles University in Prague, obtained some valuable results in this area., První plně funkční protyp laseru byl v našich zemích vyvinut a uveden do provozu v dubnu 1963 ve Fyzikálním ústavu ČSAV díky Karlu Pátkovi (5. 5. 1927 - 25. 11. 1967), významnému badateli v oboru luminiscence pevných látek. V této stati představíme zmíněný laser a seznámíme čtenáře s pozoruhodným životem a dílem jeho konstruktéra., Luděk Vyšín, Libor Juha., and Obsahuje bibliografii
