Description
The segment from the 1940 Český zvukový týdeník Aktualita (Czech Aktualita Sound Newsreel) No. 7B was made on the occasion of the grand opening of the Municipal Theatre in Písek (the current Fráňa Šrámek Theatre (Divadlo Fráni Šrámka)) on 1 February 1940. A special train with members of the National Theatre was dispatched from Prague to Písek for this occasion. The theatre opened with a performance of Bedřich Smetana's opera Prodaná nevěsta (The Bartered Bride) with Ota Horáková in the role of Mařenka. The orchestra is conducted by Václav Talich. Minister Jan Kapras and Oberlandrat (Supreme District Councillor) Gottfried Hertel are present in the audience.
