Description
The segment from the 1939 Český zvukový týdeník Aktualita (Czech Aktualita Sound Newsreel) Issue No. 36B informs about a planned bridging of Prague's Nusle Valley (Nuselské údolí). An image of unrealized designs for the bridge by architect Stanislav Bechyně. In addition to a panoramic view of the Nusle Valley, the Folimanka Park, and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. Charles the Great (kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie a svatého Karla Velikého) on Charles Square (Karlovo náměstí), the footage also includes shots of a model of the bridge created at the Research Institute of Materials and Structures (Výzkumném ústavu hmot a konstrukcí). Material durability is tested here, with Prague Mayor Otakar Klapka in attendance.
