Construction in the Centre of Prague

The unedited film footage from the Deglové production company features construction activity on Na Příkopě street, the Embankment Na Františku, the Štvanice Island and the street Na Můstku. We see the remains of the old district Podskalí, a steamship dock, the gothic house No. 412 in Výtoň, the Railway Bridge with Vyšehrad in the background. Following shots show the construction of the six-story corner building of the Böhmische Escompte-Bank near the Powder Tower, which replaced the original classicist two-story house. The bank was designed by architects Karel Jaray and Josef Sakař and built in 1930-1937. Next we see the construction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade buildings, both designed by architect Josef Fanta and built on the abandoned plot at the junction of Na Františku Street. Construction began in 1928. Shots of the old building on the bank of the Vltava, awaiting demolition. After the Vltava river arms were closed and the burnt-down Helm's Mills were demolished, the Czechoslovak government commissioned another building on the former Petrské Embankment - the Ministry of Transport by architect Antonín Engel, built in the years 1927-1932. The segment continues with the construction of the Winter Stadium on Štvanice, designed by architect Josef Fuchs. Next is the construction of the five-story Czech Trade Bank, designed by František Roith and built in the years 1935-1942, and the construction of the Lyon House of Silk on Můstek by architect Max Gerstl.
