Description
A segment from the 1931 Československý filmový týdeník (Czechoslovak Newsreel) no. 40 shows a festive gathering of firemen on the occasion of the 50 years since the National Theatre fire. The ceremony took place in the courtyard of the fire station in Sokolská ulice (Sokolská street) on 20 September 1931. The caption states that only 43 members of the original firemen's guard that fought the devastating fire of August 1881 are still alive today. Mayor of Prague Karel Baxa is handing them commemorative medals. Some attendees are dressed in historic uniforms.
