Description
The segment from the 1943 Český zvukový týdeník Aktualita (Czech Aktualita Sound Newsreel) No. 40A was shot with the intent of introducing a new production of Bedřich Smetana's opera Prodaná nevěsta (The Bartered Bride) at the National Theatre. Painter Karel Svolinských is inspecting his costume and set designs. In the National Theatre's set painting studio, the production of the set pieces is underway. Director Luděk Mandaus is talking to conductor Václav Talich. Shots of opera singers iMiluše Dvořáková, Josef Vojta, Eduard Haken and Oldřich Kovář. Minister of Education and National Enlightenment Emanuel Moravec visits the artists before the premiere. Conductor Václav Talich gives his blessings to Josef Vojt, the actor in the role of Jeník.
