Description
The segment from the 1930 Elektajournal Issue No.12 features the ceremonial cornerstone laying of the House of Health and Social Care and Folk Education (Zdravotně sociální a lidovýchovný dúm) in Vršovice, taking place on the former site of the Municipal Court (on today's Sámova Street) on March 9, 1930. This residential house with almost thirty social apartments on each floor and a courtyard gallery was designed by architect Antonín Černý and built in the years 1936-1938. President Tomáš Gariggue Masaryk is welcomed by Prague mayor Karl Baxa, mayor of Vršovice Václav Ulman, and deputies Josef Dubšek and Josef Žalud in front of the Rangheri House (Rangherka). The mayor's wife, Mrs. Ulmanová, welcomes the president with bread and salt. Sokols, legionnaires, and youth representatives in folk costumes participate in the celebrations. The President and his entourage walk past the restaurant U Bohatů on Holandská Street and tap the cornerstone at the building's future site.
