Description
The segment from the 1941 Český zvukový týdeník Aktualita (Czech Aktualita Sound Newsreel) Issue No. 42B features footage taken in autumn. Children in a park collect chestnuts into bags. During the wartime grain shortage, wheat and rye flour was replaced by chestnut flour. Chestnut flour was also used to make soap and detergents for laundry or cleaning stoves. A boy climbs a treetop and shakes off chestnuts from it. The bitter taste is removed and the chestnuts are dried and then ground into flour in the Main Chestnut Collection Point.
