Description
The segment from the 1939 Český zvukový týdeník Aktualita (Czech Aktualita Sound Newsreel) No. 37 shows the grand opening of Prozatimní divadlo (Provisional Theatre) on 5 September 1939. The National theatre found its temporary home in the former Karlín Variety building. The opening performance was Bedřich Smetana's opera Prodaná nevěsta (The Bartered Bride), directed by Hanuš Thein. The National Theatre Orchestra was led by conductor Václav Talich.
