Description
Unedited film footage from the Elektajournal production company features the construction of the Štefánik House on Sokolská Street built for the Building and Housing Association of the Czechoslovak Commissioned Officers' Union. It was designed in the style of purism by architects Jan Zázvorka and Vojtěch Kerhart and completed in the years 1929-1931 on the former site of the abandoned Romanesque church of St. John the Evangelist in the settlement Bojiště. The ceremony and the laying of the cornerstone on 5 May 1929 was attended by politicians František Udržal, František Staněk, Jan Syrový and Viktor Dyk, and many others. The segment also includes examples of the various stages of construction, a wider shot of the entire building, a panoramic view of the surrounding rooftops, and an overhead shot of I.P. Pavlov Square (náměstí I.P. Pavlova). The camera also captured the simultaneous construction of the Medical House (Lékařský dům) on an adjacent plot. The building was designed by architect František Vahala for the Committee for the Construction of the Medical House in Prague.
