Reconstruction of the U Hybernů Palace

The segment from the 1941 Český zvukový týdeník Aktualita (Czech Aktualita Sound Newsreel) Issue No. 48B depicts the reconstruction of the U Hybernů Palace on Republic Square (náměstí Republiky) in 1941. The U Hybernů Palace was created at the beginning of the 19th century by rebuilding the Baroque Church of Virgin Mary's Immaculate Conception (kostel Neposkvrněného početí Panny Marie), located near the Irish Franciscan Monastery, in the Empire style. The film footage includes shots of the nearby Na Příkopě Street, Hybernská Street, Republic Square, and the Powder Tower (Prašná brána). Roofers and bricklayers are working on the construction site. The interior is being renovated as well. The segment ends with a shot of the main hall of the Palace.
